The Meaning Behind the Word "HENSHIN!"
Henshin Pose
In reality, all of us who watched tokusatsu didn't knew the meaning of "Henshin" on the first time we hear it, with exceptions to Japanese people who, indeed already know about this stuff.

Henshin, literally "to transform or change", is the words tokusatsu heroes, and in some extent, sometimes present in anime, used to transform to his/her alter-ego. It sometimes shows the actor wearing some kind of armor from nothingness. This word is mostly often said or used in the Kamen Rider Series everytime they transform as a Kamen Rider.

There are also some variations in saying "Henshin" outside Kamen Rider Series. This includes "souchaku" and "chakusou" which literally means "to equip". These are being used by the Chou Seishin Series and Tomica Heroes Series respectively. Super Sentai Series uses different variations that is relevant to their plot and story. Examples includes "BakuryuChange" (Abaranger), "Emergency Dekaranger!" (Dekaranger), "Maji Maji Majiro" (Magiranger), "Beast On!" (Gekiranger) and "Ippitsu Soujo" (Shinkenger) pls many more!

You need a certain item to be able to henshin. These are called "Henshin Items" (isn't that obvious?). Different series have different henshin items. This includes belts/drivers (Kamen Rider Series), bracers and cellphones (Super Sentai) and many more!

Would you believe it? The word "Henshin" already reached American cartoons. One example is Capcom's character, Viewtiful Joe. He shouts the phrase, "Henshin a go-go, baby!" when he transforms into his comic book style alter-ego. Many have said that Viewtiful Joe is widely inspired by the Kamen Rider Series.
Akina Minami stars lastest "Ju-On" Movie
Akina MinamiGravure Idol Akina Minami will be starring the latest, and 10th Anniversary, "Ju-On" movie. This horror movie will be his first lead role as an actress, in contradiction, we mostly see her in guest and cameo appearances, in the latest Kamen Rider Chou Den-O and Decade Movie, as a very cheerful person.

"Ju-On" means curse grudge in English. It was a horror film created by Japanese director, Takashi Shimizu. The movies even been released in the US and spuns three remakes. Previous actresses who stars in this series are Chiaki Kuriyama, Megumi Okina and Noriko Sakai. According to some eports, it's the first Japanese directed fil in the US that remains in the #1 in box-office for two consecutive weeks.

The film will be entitled, "Ju-On: Shiroi Shoujo" and is directed by Ryota Miyake.

Excited about her role, Akina Minami said, "I was too scared after reading the script, so I told my manager I didn't think I could do it. But since it was the leading role for the 'Ju-on' series, I thought that I had to do it by any means necessary."

In the she plays a high-school girl which has a strong sense of supernatural phenomenon, in short, third-eye, whose bestfriend was murdered when they were still in elementary school.

The movie will be released, in Japan, on June 27, 2009. Watch out for it!

Anime versus Cartoons
Anime vs Cartoons
Anime and cartoons are sometimes difficult to distinguish between. Generally the best way to tell whether you are watching an anime movie or a traditional cartoon is to look at the quality of the video. Anime is much more hi-def and surreal than a standard cartoon. Anime often features flashy clothes, strange hair styles, intense action, and a loose morale on sexually based expressions. Another way to tell the difference between anime and cartoons is to look at how the story is told. In a traditional cartoon, the plot starts, unfolds, and finishes all within the one episode. An anime, however, spreads over several episodes and is separated into sagas. What makes an anime so ideal is that it fits today's society more than a traditional cartoon of the past. Anime features more of a space age look and feel to it than a standard cartoon does, keeping up with the rest of our fast-paced lifestyles. When you sit down to watch a cartoon, you can expect to waste half an hour, maybe fall asleep, and barely pay attention to it. A cartoon is a rainy day event. When you sit down to watch an anime, however, you feel the film. The action, the plot, the suspense - it's the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Henshin HottieHenshin Hottie is the term used by Henshin Justice forums members to differentiate "ladies-in-toku" to a normal gravure idol. They aren't necessarily gravure idols. Expect to see more in the coming days...
The Journey Ends

Kamen Rider Decade's journey to the nine worlds finally ends with a BANG!

Tsukasa Kadoya is Kamen Rider Decade. There is nothing known to his past because he himself didn't know about that. Kamen Rider Decade is known throughout the nine worlds as Akuma, the Japanese word for devil/demon. Many believed that he will soon destroy the nine worlds, as seen by Natsumi in her dream. In their world, there is something abnormal happening. Various kaijin from different Kamen Rider worlds attacks the city. That includes Orphenochs, Worms nad Makamous. He was told by Wataru that he should travel to the nine Kamen Rider worlds to save all those worlds from colliding.

After traveling to the nine Kamen Rider Worlds, Tsukasa gain more friends. and even enemies. One of his friends, Yuusuke Onodera, Kamen Rider Kuuga from Kuuga's world, decided to join him in his journey. He helped Tsukasa in each and every world they traveled to. He transforms into Kamen Rider Kuuga when needed, although fans get a little dismayed that he didn't even care, even when in pain, to henshin after Kiva's World. He again henshined on Den-O's world.

One of Decade's enemies is Narutaki, the trenchcoatman, whom people thought first as Sakurai Yuuto. He can summon any rider that he wants including Ryuga, Kickhopper & Punchhopper. He was the one who gave Yuusuke the Kuuga belt and warn him of the coming of the demon and the destroyer of the worlds, Decade. The same happens to all other nine worlds. Whenever they see Decade, they always call him Akuma.

Daiki Kaito is one, I believe to be, a neutral character. He is either an enemy or a friend of Tsukasa but he always clings along with them. He first appeared at Blade's world. He is somewhat knows the past of Tsukasa. He knows that Tsukasa didn't like sea cucumber.

Kaito henshins into Kamen Rider Diend. If Decade can transform into all nine Heisei Era Kamen Riders, Diend can summon them plus all other riders including IXA, Kabuki, Psyga and many others. He describes himself as a treasure hunter. He's looking for greatest treasures of the various worlds. That includes the Faiz Belt, G4 Chip, Denliner, the Clock-Up system and the secret of Ongekidou. But in each and every world, he fails to get mosts of them. He only got the Orga Belt, instead of the Faiz Belt.

After Hibiki's world, Decade's journey ends and with the completion on all Kamen Ride cards, they returned to Natsumi's world. What would happen next? Will they be able to save all worlds from destruction as what Wataru says?

Stay tuned with more Kamen Rider Decade action.

A Brief History of Kamen Rider
Kamen Rider Decade(center) with Kamen Rider Ichigo(left) and Nigo(right)

Japanese entertainment shows explores the world of reality and fantasy. From modern day celebrities to cartoon heroes, all have been a part and parcel of the Japanese entertainment industry since the last few decades. While several shows and real life celebrities have entertained people in the past, one amongst the entertainment shows that has made its mark in the Japanese entertainment industry is the Kamen Riders series.

It debuted in the year 1971 and entertained the Japanese audience for several years. The impact of the show was widely proven from the fact that there were many original and sequel shows made based on the popularity of this show.

Originally, started under the title”Masked Hero Project” the show was held for more than 5 years by the producer due to other commitments. After few rejections and modifications Kamen Riders made its first television appearance on April 3, 1971. The main character was shared amongst two heroes, Takeshi Hongo(Kamen Rider Ichigo) and Hayato Ichimonji(Kamen Rider Nigo). Hiroshi Fujioka(actor for Kamen Rider Ichigo) injured both his legs while performing a stunt for the show while filming the 10th episode. The producer somehow managed to drag the show until the 13th episode, after which Hayato Ichimonji played the lead character. Hiroshi Fujioka regained good health by episode 52, however, by then the show had already picked up great popularity with the acceptance of Hayato Ichimonji as the lead character. From episode 53, Hiroshi Fujioka replaced Hayato Ichimonji as Kamen Rider thus making Ichimonji, Kamen Rider 2 or Nigo. The show gathered immense fan following over the years, and went off air for the first time in the year 1976. It made its comeback again in the year 1979.

From this year onward, Kamen Rider didn't fail fans from making new Kamen Rider series each year. This includes Kamen Rider V3, X, Amazon, Stronger, Skyrider, and Super-1. Through the years, Kamen Rider Ichigo and Nigo appears frequently on all Kamen Rider shows.

Kamen Rider Black, which went on air in the year 1987. is the first Kamen Rider that doesn't have any relationship with its predecessors. It is followed by a direct sequel, Kamen Rider Black RX. It features the first form changing ability of a rider. Black RX can transform into three forms. First is thedefault form, second is Roborider and lastly, Biorider.

This show ran successfully for few years followed with a large absence during the 1990’s. In this hiatus, they make a three movies namely, Kamen Rider J, ZO and Shin Kamen Rider. The later is called the most violent rider of all time.

In 1999, “Kamen Rider Kuuga” was announced and aired in 2000, it also features a form changing Kamen Rider with a total of 11 forms. It is followed by Agito(2001), Ryuki(2002), 555(2003), Blade(2004), Hibiki(2005), Kabuto(2006), Den-O(2007) and Kiva(2008).

The year 2007 saw the emergence of the eighth series named “Kamen Rider Den-O”. The immense popularity of this show made its way to theatres in the year 2008 and 2009, with a total of four movies in total. It is the only Kamen Rider which has four movies.

Certain remakes of the first Kamen Rider series have been done including, Kamen Rider The First in 2005, and Kamen Rider the Next in 2007.

The latest 2009 series, “Kamen Rider Decade” is the 10th Anniversary Series which features the title rider traveling into 9 worlds of the previous 9 Kamen Riders. All Kamen Riders in the Heisei era returned into their alternate worlds. To the fans demise, no previous lead actor had returned in these series.

In the upcoming movie "Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs Daishocker" is what fans have been waiting for for years. All Kamen Riders will return to battle it out to finish their greatest enemy, the Daishocker. It will be shown in theaters on August 2009.

The show has entertained people for decades now and continues to make its presence felt not only through television, but also through action figure, belts, videogames, statues, books etc.
