Kodai Shoujo Doguchan Trailer

18-year-old Idoling!!! member Erika Yazawa will be turning heads in an unapologetically bizarre new show called Kodai Shoujo Doguchan (The Ancient Dogoo Girl) this fall. She stars as an ancient girl who’s revived after 10,000 years to fight evil in modern-day society while capturing the heart of a socially withdrawn teenager named Makoto (Masataka Kubota).

Noboru Iguchi wrote and directed the premiere episode and even makes a cameo in the show. Other directors include Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on) and Ryuta Miyake (Ju-on: Shiroi Rojo), among others. Special models (including Dogoo’s clay bikini!) were provided by Yoshihiro Nishimura and visual effects were handled by Tsuyoshi Kazuno (The Machine Girl, RoboGeisha, et al.)

MBS (Mainichi Broadcasting System) will begin airing “The Ancient Dogoo Girl” on October 7, 2009.

20th Century Boys is a manga series turned recently turned into a live action movie trilogy. 20th Century boys tells the story of a group of friends who, in the 1970s formed a club and wrote ‘The Book of Prophecies" in which to them was nothing more than a fantasy story about their adult exploits and their ability to save the world from a secret organization.

Death Note

Death Note Live Action Movie
Death Note features a student who, sick and tired of being surrounded by corruption and crime, wishes for a way to get rid of it all. His wish comes true in the form of a notebook which allows him to kill anyone he wants, simply by putting the name of the person he wants dead into the notebook.

The character ‘L’-Light-starts to take a downward turn however as he goes from a hero, to a villain as he goes mad with power and begins murdering anyone standing in his way. The movie is causing some controversy as parents worry that such violence in the movie will lead to their kids doing violent things or even carrying ‘death notebooks’ of their own. However, this movie is more for the mature audience, and so should be up to the discretion of the parent.

Trailer

NaNa

NaNa Live Action Movie
NaNa is a manga aimed at the girls which follows the lives of two girls with identical names. They are opposites in every way with one of them a shy, sickly girl who has trouble with boys and the other one is an independent, hard headed woman who dreams of being in a rock band.

The manga is immensely popular and the live action movie that followed did well with critics since it follows the manga faithfully in terms of events and characterizations. The movie is a romantic, musical drama which any fan of the manga series should enjoy.

There are plenty of other manga-turned-movies to check out; these are just three more recent ones.

Darna - Philippine Tokusatsu + Initial Review
Darna Marian Rivera 2009
Darna is one of the Philippines' original superheroine. Created by Mars Ravelo, she first flew through comics and movies, and now, on Philippine television. I think you would ask why I dubbed Darna as a Philippine toku? It's because tokusatsu have lots of computer generated images (CGI) and of course, a transformation from a normal human to a superhero or to us, a henshin. Unlike most toku (in Japan) that we all saw, her henshin device is not a belt nor a cellphone, but a stone. She swallows it and shouts the word "DARNA!" She then transform to a sexy superhero in a red two piece bikini. She is endowed with super strength and flight.

Last week was the debut of Marian Rivera as Darna. Alhough it already ran for two weeks, with a broad back story starting from her birth to adulthood, last week was Narda (MarianRivera) transformation to Darna. Unlike other Darna movies, who used just a beam of light and a smoke, now, they have incorporated a transformation sequence that we occasionally saw on Super Sentai and Kamen Riders. But the my demise, it is just used once, on the first time Narda became Darna.

The recent villain that she fought is Roma the "Babaeng Impakta" (She-Demon), one of Darna's orginal enemies, who have a demonic vampire on her back named Impy. Impy is the one who urges Roma to do evil things. They suck human heart to lengthen their lives.

The fight scenes are quite good but what I really don't like about it is the action poses Darna makes after a strong kick and punch. The same sequence is also visible on the Shaider spin-off, Zaido. And the incorporation of soap opera with action scenes. Honestly, it kinda pisses me off seeing them that but what else can I do? It's what the directors said. Luckily, the story and plot is good and I'm surely watch this one 'til the end.

Top 10 Gravure Idols
Who is your favorite idol?

A recent poll by Oricon, they listed the Top 10 Gravure Idols. They asked 600 men who their favorite models were. Of course all idols who were voted are sexy and hot Japanese models. Going on the top spot is Aki Hoshino (32). She's one of the Henshin Hotties whom we last saw on Kamen Rider Den-O: Ore Tanjou Movie two years ago.

Other Henshin Hotties who are included on the list are: Akina Minami (#4), Yukie Kawamura (#5), Sayaka Isoyama (#6), Mikie Hara (#9) and Yuko Ogura (#10). Unluckily, none of my personal favorites, Yuka Hirata and Yuriko Shiratori, got into top 10.

Nodame Cantabile Live Action Movie
Nodame Cantabile Live Action Movie
The "Nodame Cantabile" movie is going to come out in December this year and now there has been a flood of new details concerning the locations, cast and other stuff.

One of the biggest new locations in the movie is going to be the "capital of music", Vienna. Actor Tamaki Hiroshi (29) about the location, "I can feel the weight of all the history this city holds and I’m becomming really tense." Actress Ueno Juri (23) too, "There’s no better place to concentrate than here." Celebrated musicians like Mozart, Beethoven or Brahms have been active in Vienna and you can find statues of them in the local park.

It’s the first time ever that a Japanese movie is going to be filmed in the historic "Wiener Musikverein" and its golden hall, the same hall where even famous Japanese conductor Ozawa Seiji (73) once made an amazing performance. Now it’s Tamaki who gets the honor to conduct "Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony" for the filming of Nodame. Ueno admired his performance, "He looked so cool. You can feel the power of Chiaki’s (Tamaki) personal growth up he went through up until now."

Last month on the 16th, they already started filming in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. They continued in Brno, the Czech Republic and after that they arrived in Vienna, Austria. After Vienna, they went back to Brno also filmed a few scenes Prague. Right now they are in France and about to start filming in Paris. In September they are going to start filming the 2nd part (movie comes in 2 parts). In Vienna they had a team consisting of 60 Japanese, plus a mix of 64 Austrians and Czechs working on the movie. A total of 110 extras came from Japan to appear in several (big) scenes like in the hall.

New cast members are going to be actor Tanihara Shosuke (36), comedian and actor Nadagi Takeshi (38) and comedian Chad Mullane (29).

Kamen Rider Decade and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger Movie on Top
Kamen Rider Decade Movie: All Riders vs Daishocker Samura Sentai Shinkenger: The Fateful War
Good news to Kamen Riders and Super Sentai fans out there!

As expected by many fans, the back-to-back movie of Kamen Rider Decade and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger leads the box office, according to the Japanese movie site, Movie Walker. Do you know which movies it beat? It''s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (#2) and Pokemon: Arceus - To the Conquering of Space-Time (#3). I think the Showa Kamen Riders was the key to this success. Who would not have became nostalgic seeing their favorite Kamen Riders again in a once in a lifetime gathering, that might not happen again in the future.

For international fans like me, we need to patiently wait until and DVD and a subbed version comes out to watch this awesome movie.
BanDai Loves Exclusives
Yet more web-exclusive figures are on the way from the Tamashii Web Bandai Collector's Shop. Who's up this time:

SH FiguArts Sieg Imagin

S.H. FiguArts Sieg, from Kamen Rider Den-O. Yeah yeah yeah, I think we all knew this was coming. With Momotaros, Urataros and Deneb being regular releases, Sieg joins Kintaros and Ryuutaros (also up for preorder until 8/17) as webshop exclusives. More details here.

The figure ships in December 2009.

SH FiguArts Kamen Rider Kuuga Rising Ultimate Form

S.H. FiguArts Kamen Rider Kuuga Rising Ultimate Form (Black-eyed Version) from some movie that just came out. This one came out of nowhere so fast that at first I didn't even believe it was real! But it is indeed, though not up for preorder just yet. This is the black-eyed version, and if you know anything about how Ultimate Form works (or read my Spoiler review of the movie) you know what this guy means. A Red-eyed version will be on sale at Toei Hero Net, essentially making it another web exclusive. More details on the Black-eyed one here.

The figure ships in February 2010.

Lastly, S.I.C. Kamen Rider Kiva Emperor Form from... guess where. Normal old Kiva comes out at the end of this month, and his super-duper upgrade is also up for preorder now. I've got a few pictures of him from the Tokyo Toy Show back in July which I'll be putting up soon. More details here.

The figure ships in December 2009.

Source: Igadevil's Kamen Rider Blog

Here's my point of view:
Honestly, I really don't like S.I.Cs (Super Imaginative Chogokin) which are not as poseable as Souchaku Henshins and FiguArts. So The SIC Kamen Rider Kiva Emperor is a no no for me. I can resists on getting those Imagins but not that FiguArts Kuuga Ultimate Rising Form. I will do anything to get that one as soon as the hobby shop near our place will sell that one, but not until, more or less, May 2010 (haven't got SH FiguArts Kamen Rider New Den-O that I ordered months ago from that hobby shop).

I wonder if the succeeding FiguArts will be all exclusives..... I hope they will not.

Well, this just reminds me to get SH FiguArts Decade, Diend, and Hana (19 y/o version) soon.
Kamui Gaiden Sneak Preview
The Legend of Kaui Gaiden movie poster
Sanpei Shirato’s ninja manga, Kamui, is about to be given life on the big screen to the delight of millions of awaiting manga fanatics all over the world. Followers of Kamui have to wait a little bit more for its grand cinema opening but should be contended to view the teaser trailer on its website to while away the time. Shooting ran through November 2008 to February this year, and finally the Japan release is already slated on the 19th of September. No Western release date is still in view. Korean-Japanese Yoichi Sai (who also did Blood and Bones, Japan’s official entry as the Best Foreign Language Film for the 2006 Academy Awards) fills the director seat. In Kankuro Kudos able hands, the ludicrously lengthy and dragging plot potentially becomes a worthy screenplay.

The Trailer:

Manga enthusiasts can expect the live adaptation of The Legend of Kamui to have a different treatment from the other ninja movies churned by Hollywood. As in the original manuscript, ninjas are portrayed unlike the constantly black-garbed ninjas that we usually imagine and see in western films. The official trailer is only less than 60 seconds long, and if it is anything like the whole movie, it promises to deliver an intense portrayal of life in feudal Japan.

The Legend
The movie is based on The Legends of Kamui, a part of the three-part series Kamui, a Japanese graphic novel that came out first in 1964 in GARO, a Japanese anthology magazine, and found its way to the US through Viz Comics in 1987. The legendary story set in Japan chronicles the life of Kamui. Drawn to becoming a ninja mainly because of poverty, Kamui realizes that he shunned the ninja’s way of life. In those days, ninjas were considered warriors skilled in assassination and espionage. Wanting to put a stop to a violent life, Kamui flees from the kinship and becomes a hunted outlaw. He is considered a traitor to their clan and the other ninjas are out to get him before their secrets are bared to the outside world. In his journey to leave behind the past and his relentless pursuers, he travels around Japan and sees the stark reality during the Edo period. In the novel, the Edo period is portrayed as a time of peace but also of social oppression, censorship and isolation. In order to gain his freedom, he still needs to resort to his ninja skills and intelligence to kill his enemies. Closely guarding his emotions, he loses faith in trust and love for other people, fearing they will lead to his death. He gets shipwrecked on a small island and meets a fisherman’s family where he eventually learns to open up. But danger still lurks around the corner and he must overcome his paranoia and his adversaries.

The Stars
Producers invested more than $18 million for this film which make it one of the highest-budgeted Japanese movies of all time. It features Kenichi Matsuyama (best remembered for his performance as Detective L in Death Note), Koyuki (Tom Cruise’s love interest in the Last Samurai), there is also Suzuka Ohgo (as the young Chiyo in Memoirs of a Geisha), another actor is Hideaki Ito (Sukiyaki Western Django), renowned actress Anna Tsuchiya (Kamikazi Girls), and Hong Kong popular star Ekin Cheng (The Storm Warriors).

The Journey
The manga The Legend of Kamui had its first taste of exposure in the anime series “Kamui the Ninja: Stories Other Than the Legend” in 1969 and as a full-length animated film in 1971. Kamui is being co-produced and distributed by Shochiku Co., Ltd. It will be one of eight international program films that will be featured in the Toronto International Film Festival in Ontario from September 10-19, 2009.

Source: Asian Movie Pulse

International fans who will not have a chance to see this movie will only get to watch this when a DVD version comes out. The time of waiting can be more or less five months after the movie stopped showing in Japan. So if this movie runs for two months, we can see the DVD version by May 2010 or earlier than that. Fans like me, expect to see a subbed version by August 2010.

Kamen Rider Decade Movie: All Rider vs Daishocker Review
Kamen Rider Decade Movie Review Poster
It will take us to wait for at least four to five months to see the latest Kamen Rider movie, Kamen Rider Decade Movie: All Riders vs Daishocker, that was shown in Japan last Friday, August 8. But our friend Igadevil hooks us up a review, for all Kamen Rider fans all over the world, on what we will expect to see after the DVD came out.

Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Daishocker
by Igadevil

Here it is. Possibly the biggest Rider movie to date, and easily one of the most anticipated.

The hype for this thing has been incredible, with one of the most aggressive ad campaigns I've seen in a while. Ads up the wazoo. Kamen Rider taking over 7-11 and the Tokyo Metropolitan Subway. Net movies which I still gotta watch. Mock Shocker political rallies. More TV specials and bits than ever before (why must most of them be on early in the morning or on the version of TV-Asahi we don't get up here?) And much, much more.

And now, it's finally out. Does it live up to expectations? I'll get to that in a sec!

Obviously, this movie had a lot riding on it, if you'll forgive the terrible pun. It's the movie of the show celebrating 10 years of Kamen Rider back on TV, it's the first movie to unite all the Riders, new and old, in one film. For many of them, this is their first time back in on-screen Kamen Rider in years. It also has to be about the titular Kamen Rider Decade, since it is his movie.

And make no mistake, it is his movie. It's a Kamen Rider Decade movie featuring all the Riders, rather than a movie about all the Riders that happens to have Decade in it. He's the star attraction, even given how significant his co-stars are to selling the film to viewers. It's his story, but they all play a part in it.

There is a helluva lot of plot going on here, though unfortunately given the current near-finished of the show, we have yet to know how it will all figure in. With an epic showdown and a story that pushes the heroes to their very limit, it has the feel of being "Decade's greatest adventure". It certainly does things with the characters, and the whole premise of the show, which are pretty gutsy.

But before I get into that, let's get back to the question: Does it live up to expectations? That'll depend on what your expectations are, and how you feel about the Decade TV series. The movie's certainly got enough hype and excitement around it that I think it'll be impossible to satisfy everyone. Nothing new there though.

As you can see, the first scene is a battle between Kamen Rider Decade and Kamen Rider Kabuto. In the second half of the video, you can see a battle between Kamen Rider Decade and Dark Decade. If you are successful in defeating this guy, you will be able to play as him in any modes you like.

Here is a review of the Kamen Rider Climax Heroes game for the Playstation 2 that was released by Bandai Games courtesy of our friend, SeraphisCain over at HJU Forums.

SeraphisCain says:
The full roster is: Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Blade, Hibiki, Kabuto, Den-O, Kiva, Decade, Diend, Zeronos, IXA, and Dark Decade.

Gatack, Autovaijin, and G3-X are also in.

Kinda.

They're only playable in one or two stages in Decade mode. And even then they only have one special move each, no super moves, and no form changes.

It's pretty evident now that Climax Heroes was rushed to come out around the same time as All Riders vs DaiShocker. We know from that one scan that Gatack was originally meant to be on the main roster. He was probably left unfinished due to time. I just wish they'd have cut the unfinished characters out of the game completely instead of teasing us with half finished versions only playable in one or two stages in one mode.

Ryuga, Nega Den-O, and Dark Kabuto are in the game as well, but they're completely unplayable.

My biggest complaint, as far as gameplay goes, is the combo system. You've got your weak attacks done with [], your strong attacks done with /\, your combo-breaking attacks done with X, and your special moves done with O.

Now, you can do combos like [] [] [] [] or /\ /\ /\ /\, or say -> + [] [] [] [] or Down + /\ /\ /\ /\. But the big problem I have is that you can't mix say, weak and strong moves, or special moves with normal moves. You're restricted to the basic canned combos. So you'll be doing a lot of mashing one button. You CAN form change in the middle of a combo, though, so that's a plus.

In general, I'd probably say that this game falls just under the Kabuto game, as far as quality of gameplay goes. It's fun for what it is, but the limited combo system and the fact that some characters are VERY over or underpowered (Blade is extremely strong compared to someone like Hibiki, Den-O Gun Form borders on cheap, etc), combined with the fact that the game is obviously unfinished, drops this game just below Kabuto.

It's still excellent for Rider fans though, make no mistake. But only as a fanservice game. If you're looking for a fighter with even a small amount of depth, you won't find it here.

It will just be up to you if you want to purchase this game or not. :)
