New Year is the time to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the coming year. It is the time to forget and get past memories that are no longer useful or worth pondering upon. It is the time for new beginnings and new starts in life. New Year has a message for each one of us. One should let go of the past that has bad memories and accept what has happened, has happened for some reason. Instead of clinging onto your past and things that have gone, it is better to let go.
There is an old saying that goes, "Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened". This essentially means that there is no use crying over spilt milk. You cannot turn back time and do things that would benefit you. Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue. New year is the time of new beginnings. It is time to start afresh and do things that would make someone else smile. Make a pledge to make at least one person happy. You will see the difference it can make in both your lives. The essential message of New Year is let go off the past and embrace life as it comes to you. You will be happier and merrier that way.
HAPPY NEW YEAR from JEFusion!

The 2nd Season of the music themed anime series K-On! have been confirmed. This was announced at the "Let's Go!" live concert held at Yokohama. While playing some of the footage the first season, there's an announcement at the end about the upcoming 2nd season.
There's also an announcement made at K-On's official website.
K-On!'s story revolves around four Japanese high school girls who join their school's light music club to try to save it from being abolished. However, they are the only members of the club, and at first Yui Hirasawa has no experience playing musical instruments or reading sheet music. Eventually, she learns how to be an excellent guitar player. The rest of the club helps her to buy a guitar, and they perform at the school festival.

Are you all serious about this?
There are recent reports that the Korean game publisher WindySoft, joining forces with DaeWon Media and Rainfall Soft, will develop a whole new MMORPG (massively multiplayer online game) based one of the most loved anime in the world, Crayon Shin-Chan.
Crayon Shin-Chan Online is said to be going to be faithful to the late Yoshito Usui's manga. The manga follows the exploits of Shinnosuke Nohara, a mischievous (fictional) kindergartner in Usui's own hometown of Kasukabe.
I'm now wondering how's the game going to be like....

I know Christmas is already over but I have stumbled upon on this blog post regarding a survey on "what Japanese kids want to have as a Christmas present". This survey is made on children 12 years of age and conducted by TV Tokyo News.
Here are the results:
1. Video game software (over 450 kids said this)
2. Pretty Cure goods (over 100 kids said this)
3. Anpanman goods
4. Books (picture book, book, illustrated encyclopedia)
5. Kamen Rider goods
6. Bicycle
7. Toy car
8. Clothes
9. Stuffed animal
10. Video game console
It seems to me that most children in Japan already owned a game console so they only wished for video game software. Pretty cure is also one of the top choices. And I'm thinking if there's a good amount of males who answered that... LOL XD
Our beloved Kamen Rider merchandise is on the fifth spot while Super Sentai merchandises are no where to be seen... I wonder why?

After a year of sitting in my archive, I decided to rewatch Kamen Rider The Next movie, while downloading TV-Nihon's Mahou Sentai Magiranger Movie in HD, last Christmas. So now, I decided to write a review about the movie to share my views.
Synopsis (from Wiki):
Two years after the events of Kamen Rider the First, a strange series of bizarre murders occur with the victims mutilated in a most gruesome fashion while pop star Chiharu's "Platinum Smile" is being played, becoming an urban legend. Meanwhile, Takeshi Hongo has become a high school science teacher with a troublesome class with one catching his attention, a troubled girl named Kotomi Kikuma who was best friends with Chiharu and is worried about her. By the time Hongo and she find a dying "Chiharu", they learn she's actually an imposter as the Shocker Inhumanoid Chainsaw Lizard arrives with the six Shocker Riders to carry out the task of executing Hongo, forcing him to reveal himself in as Kamen Rider 1 to Kotomi before escaping his hunters. At around the same time, Hayato Ichimonji is shown still alive but slowly weakening due to his body's rejection of the cybernetic changes which made him Kamen Rider 2.
Kamen Rider The Next is a sequel to the Kamen Rider The First movie (which I still haven't seen). It is a loose adaptation to the second Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider V3. Loose, meaning, there are drastic changes in the storyline including Shirou Kazami's (Kamen Rider V3) family and how he became a Kamen Rider. But there are still some aspects that are retained.
Some stars in this movie have already made an appearance on previous Kamen Rider series. Shirou Kazami is played by Keisuke Kato (previously seen as Drake in Kamen Rider Kabuto) and Chiharu is played by Erika Mori (previously seen as Hitomi Mochida in Kamen Rider Hibiki). While Takeshi Hongo is played by Masaya Kikawada and Hayato Ichimonji by Hassei Takano. Both reprised their roles from Kamen Rider The First.
The movie's main focus is on the pop idol, Chiharu, Shirou Kazami's sister (this contradicts the original series on having Yukiko as Shirou's sister). There have been rumors that anyone who listens to the song "Platinum Smile" will die due to unknown reasons. But the reason is later revealed in the movie along with V3's origin.
Instead of having pure action, like the previous Kamen Rider movies, this movie incorporates a horror theme, similar to The Grudge. From my point of view, this is a experiment if horror can be used properly on a tokusatsu movie, in which I think didn't really work out. It just became cheesy on those horror moments.
The action scenes on this movie are superb especially the bike chase. Lots of flips, punches and high powered kicks are used. There are also some instances that the scenes were in slow motion. It do seems that they focused on these rather than on CGIs. There are nearly a few CGI throughout the movie and most of them can be seen at the climax.
If you are a typical Kamen Rider fan, you might get disappointed that the word "henshin" was not used in the movie, even the "henshin sequences" like we see in the current series. I too get disappointed on this one. But the bikes of the original are retained here. That includes Cyclone 1 and 2, and Hurricane.

The best part of this movie is when it's on climax and the three Kamen Rider used the same poses from the original series. And V3 also used the Double Typhoon in this movie which utilizes the skill and strength of Ichigo and Nigo. Don't forget the Kamen Rider's signature moves such as Rider Kick and Rider Punch.
Funniest part? Hmm... Let me think... Ah... The one when Hongo visits Kikuma's house. There's a lady who spoke Filipino. At first I really didn't recognize it until the voice is loud enough to be heard. It's funny since I'm a Filipino and this is the only language I can understand without subs. Plus, the lady must be very lucky to be a extra on a Kamen Rider movie... I wonder where is she now...
Another comment, according to the DVD jacket, this movie is rated PG-12 because of slight nudity and violence. But in my opinion, children who are just 12 years old are not meant to be seeing nudity. They would've put it under PG-16. Just my two cents.
Other than that, Kamen Rider The Next is an enjoyable and action packed movie to watch even if you are a Kamen Rider fan or not. If you are not, this might give you an urge to be in the fandom. XD
My rating: 4/5 stars
You can get Kamen Rider The Next movie via TV-Nihon and see for yourself.

The Sankei Sports newspaper reports that the 1/1-scale, 18-meter-tall statue of the Gundam robot, which was built to mark the 30th anniversary of the Gundam anime franchise, is being relocated to Shizuoka City in central Japan next July. According to the newspaper's source, the 59-foot-tall statue is being moved in front of Japan Railway's Higashi-Shizuoka Station in Shizuoka's Aoki ward. The city plans to officially announce the relocation with Bandai NAMCO Holdings, the parent company of Gundam's anime studio Sunrise, at the beginning of the new year.
Not coincidentally, the Bandai Hobby Center, the production factory for Bandai's Gundam plastic model kits, is located in Shizuoka. (Many other model kit manufacturers, such as Tamiya, are also located in this city.) The statue will remain on display at Higashi-Shizuoka from July of 2010 to May of 2011, and then be moved to another prefecture. It will eventually be erected near the Bandai Hobby Center.
The statue was disassembled in September after being on display for two months at Shiokaze Park on the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo Bay. Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino and the main character Amuro Ray's voice actor Tohru Furuya participated in the opening ceremony at Odaiba on July 10. Altogether, 4.15 million visitors came to see the statue; the planners had only anticipated 1.5 million over its two months at Odaiba. On August 23 alone, a record 185,000 visitors came. At the time of the disassembly, the planners said that the fate of the statue after August 31 was "undetermined."
The 35-ton statue was built with fiberglass-reinforced plastic over a steel frame so it can be disassembled later. It features 50 lights, 14 mist-emitting devices, sound effects, and a moving head unit. A different 1/1-scale RX-78-2 Gundam bust (from the chest up) is already on display at the Omochanomachi Bandai Museum in Tochigi Prefecture.

In the 2010 film, she plays 18-year-old Akari Yoshiyama, the only daughter of the novel's heroine Kazuko. Gaia Memories are fictional items, existing within the tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Double, resembling a USB flash/thumb drive. For the user to gain special abilities, a Gaia Memory is then inserted to the Organism Connector which resembles a USB port. Once used, the user will turn into a Dopant. Each Gaia Memory have unique and special powers, most of this resembles animals and elemental abilities.
But there are Gaia Memories that cannot be used without a Memory Driver. Throughout the show, there are only a few people who own this kind of device. These are the Sonozaki Family, also known as the Dopant Commanders, and Kamen Rider Double. Since Dopants are the only known beings to use Gaia Memories, Kamen Rider Double once mistaken to be a Dopant and Kirihiko Sonozaki labeled him as a half-half Dopant.
It is said to be created by Phillip.
Let's have a simple game here at JEFusion. I got a screenshot from Kamen Rider Double episode 12, on the scene where the dealer sells the Virus Gaia Memory to Sachi Yamamura. Let's see if you can name all visible Gaia Memories.

Just comment on this post your "wise" guess. And let's see if your guess is the same as mine.
Let the game begin!

Lupin III: the Last Job, the 20th television special starring the crafty thief character from Monkey Punch's caper manga, will premiere in Japan on February 12. The premise of the new anime will center around the supposed "death" of Inspector Zenigata, Lupin III's nemesis from Interpol. The story begins with the discovery of a Japanese cultural treasure — at a Nazi Germany sanatorium. Morgana, a mysterious figure who leads a ninja thief gang, battles Lupin for the treasure, and he seemingly kills Zenigata.
Since Monkey Punch launched the original manga in Manga Action magazine in 1967, the Lupin III franchise has spawned three television series, six theatrical films, and a string of two-hour television specials that began in 1989. This past March, Lupin III faced a detective from another manga, Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan. The year before, Lupin dealt with an impersonator in the Lupin III: Green vs Red video anime.

Here's a cool video that I recently saw on Youtube. It's an edited version of Yu Yu Hakusho's opening theme, Hohoemi no Bakudan (Smiling Bomb). But instead of Yuusuke and the gang, the video features the characters of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Thanks to zeldAIS. I found this video via his tweet on Twitter.

Back in my childhood days, I'm a big fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other American cartoons. But the time comes when local TV stations here in the Philippines aired live action super hero shows such as Ultraman, Choudenshi Bioman, Hikari Sentai Maskman, Kamen Rider Black, Kousoku Sentai Turboranger, Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman and Choujin Sentai Jetman. I was more or less 5-7 years old back then so I didn't now that these was called tokusatsu. These are the first tokusatsus that I have seen, although I haven't seen all the episodes completely.

Of all the series mentioned above, my favorite is Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman. It is a story of five siblings, who acts as teachers on Earth. They lost their parents on a Zone Empire invasion on their home planet. They were raised by Arthur G3 and thought them how to use the Fiveman technology to help and save Earth, which they loved so much.

I really loved watching these shows basically because of the action and robot scenes but I hardly remember if they are finished or not here. Just like any other kids, I want to have toys of each show back then. But merchandises of the said shows are nowhere to be seen. :( Several years after, they aired shows like Janperson, Jiban, and Shaider. Like I have said above, I didn't know that these are tokusatsus nor Metal Heroes.
I even remember singing their theme songs even though I couldn't understand them.
Months have passed and the awesomeness of these shows have diminished and put down on air for unknown reasons. This is the start of the days wherein I rarely watch TV...
Again, months have passed and while taking a shot on TV, I saw a commercial of what they call Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I become excited to watch the new show. My first reaction to it is that it's kinda like Jetman, Fiveman and Maskman. IIRC, it was shown every Friday nights. It turned out to be good and awesome.

Power Rangers is about a team of five (later six) teenagers with attitude are recruited, by an entity named Zordon, and they try save Angel Grove from the evil witch Rita Repulsa her horde of evil monsters.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers lasts for three seasons and have one movie which earned $66 million worldwide. I remembered watching it with my family and the movie action and CGI that time was WOW! With my nostalgia on this movie, I bought a DVD of the movie that I saw on bargain a year ago. But to my disappointment, it is not as good as the first time I saw it DX.
Power Rangers were widely accepted by the Filipino people back then since the theme of the show is somewhat new in our country. With it sprung countless local and international parodies. Even merchandises from shirts to toys are pretty available in the market. Luckily, I have snagged some. Then because of Power Rangers' fame, another TV station aired Saban's Masked Rider, VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs which came from the same company that made Power Rangers.

It was every child's dream to become one. Honestly, my friends and I even role play as Power Rangers and I always turned out to be the Blue Ranger XD. Yeah it sucks...
To be continued...

The Japanese website for Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine began streaming two minutes of footage from the Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th anniversary film, Gekijō-ban Yu-Gi-Oh! ~Chō-Yūgō! Jikū o Koeta Kizuna~ (Yu Gi Oh!: The Movie ~Super Fusion! The Bonds that Trancends Time~), last week. The 139-second trailer is also available from the movie's own website.
The movie will feature the main heroes of all three TV Tokyo anime series: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters' Yuugi Mutou, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monster GX's Judai Yuki, and the ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Yūsei Fudō. The story will bring together the three heroes to fight Paradox, a powerful new enemy that will appear for the first time in the film.

Allow me, GekiDan, to introduce JEFusion's new contributor, UltimateRyukendo. He is also known as Jedibmoney back in HJU Forums. He is a good friend of mine who have a great knowledge on tokusatsu especially the Ultraman franchise, who is always left behind after Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.
Here is a short introduction from the man himself:
Here is a short introduction from the man himself:
Sorry for the Austin Powers quote there for the title but I'm now JEFusion's new writer. I go by the name B-money and I am a very reliable source when it comes to just about anything related to Tokusatsu, Star Trek, Star Wars or any other Franchise or Genre that I love. My first tokusatsu I saw was the Dub of the Original Ultraman which I saw in 1992 on video tape which was a year before Mighty Morphin Power Rangers came to be. I am 22. I live in the State of New Jersey in the United States of America.Welcome B-Money! I do hope you will enjoy your stay here!
I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me
Till then I will catch you all later
~B-Money~

The very first female red ranger is to appear in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger next year, January 3! The female shinken red is reported to be played by Natsui Runa (夏居瑠奈).
Let's just hope that the unexplainable "magical deadly sexist curse" in Kamen Rider universe won't infect the sentai universe.

Anime fillers: Do you like it? Or do you hate it?
Before that, here is a brief description of an anime filler. Anime fillers are basically episodes that do not exists on the original source material or manga. A filler can be as short as a single episode (existing on short animes) or can be as long as an entire season (existing on long running animes). Fillers, as the name implies, "fills" an episode with non-canonical material which has been written usually by the same company which animates it.
So why do they make fillers?
First, most of the time, the animation company had begun catching up with the source materials (manga/light novels) and they need to give the author an ample time to write more chapters. This is very much present on most ongoing manga/anime adaptations like One Piece, Bleach and Naruto.
Second, most animes adapt two or more chapters in each episode, and there are times that the climax very crucial, they add some scenes to give a cliffhanger to the episode. This will make the climax on the fresh and new episode.
Lastly, there are animes which have alot of popularity among viewers, that the animation studio tends to add fillers to extend its airing. With that popularity, they could earn lots of profits through advertisers and merchandises. This reason is present on the anime Naruto. With it's popularity, they delayed the airing of Shippuuden and aired almost 100 filler episodes.
If you read the manga, you can easily see if the episode is a filler or not. But if you are not a manga reader, how could we know if the episode we are watching are fillers or not? Here are some characteristics of a filler:
- It has pointless and boring episodes. You can always see this when each episodes focuses on the main characters' whole training period.
- It gives you more confusions on the actual story which will lead on the anime having plot holes.
- The story is very much different than the rest of the series since filler episodes are written by different persons.
- It introduces a new set of villains which are not an actual part of their main villain.
- Most of the time, it is shown before or after the climax of an arc.
Based on my knowledge, most ongoing manga/anime adaptations, like Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, have the most fillers. And Naruto has the most number of fillers which lasted for almost a year.
There are also some animes which don't have any (or less) filler episodes. Most of the instances, these are short anime series which only lasts less than or at least 25 episodes (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Shakugan no Shana). Or animes which don't have any (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) or finished source material (Black Blood Brothers).
But in my experience on watching anime for more than a decade, there are fillers episodes in which the story are good and exciting to watch which will build-up the excitement throughout the climax.
In your own opinion, do you love or hate anime fillers?
