AKB48's “So Long!” Tops Oricon Charts, One Million Copies Sold

Idol group AKB48 tops Oricon Weekly Charts by selling 1,036,000 copies of their 30th singleSo Long!”. The single features their annual graduation / sakura theme, with Mayu Watanabe as the center.

Since “RIVER” (October 2009), this is AKB48's 17th consecutive chart topping single and they have extended their own records for “the number of consecutive chart topping singles” and “total number of chart topping singles”. This also marks their 11th consecutive single (and 12th single overall) to sell over a million copies since “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” (February 2011).

Ever since 1968, when Oricon started the single ranking, there has only been three singles besides AKB48 that sold over a million copies during the first week — “Namonaki Uta” (Mr.Children in 1996), ”Dango 3 Kyoudai” (Hayami Kentaro, Shigemori Ayumi, and more in 1999), and “Addicted To You” (Utada Hikaru in 1999). Impressively, there have been no artist who have achieve the same feat with more than one single, aside from AKB48.

AKB48's “So Long” will be released on February 20th, in seven types: TYPE A, K and B, in both CD+DVD Limited Edition and Regular Edition, for 1600 yen each, and a Theater Edition, for 1000 yen. Pre-order now at CDJapan and get exciting bonuses!

I'm sorry put I see posts about this group all the time on this site and I've gotta ask, what on earth makes them so important. I haven't heard them so I'm saying they're bad or anything I simply don't get it.

Basically, I'm a fan of the group. Scandal and this are the only groups that I follow.

It's still Japanese entertainment, right? :)
