Police Won't File Charges Against Kodansha Due to AKB48 Tomomi Kasai's Photo

The Japanese authorities won't anymore file child pornography charges against publishing company Kodansha due to its one-page ad for idol group AKB48 member Tomomi Kasai's first solo photobook, “Tomo no Koto, Suki?”.

The said Young Magazine issue was delayed due to an inappropriate photo featuring the photobook's past cover where Kasai nude from the waist up with a child standing behind and reaching around her chest. The issue was then recalled.

According to the police, since Kodansha tries its best to stop the photo's circulation, by recalling "to be released" issues on bookstores and retailers, removing the inappropriate photo and cancelling the release of the photobook itself, further investigation is not needed.

As of writing, there had been no additional information on the release of Tomomi Kasai's "new" photobook.

Last December, Tomomi Kasai released her debut singleMasaka”. But during “The 2nd AKB48 Kohaku Taikou Uta Gassen” event last December 17th, she announced her graduation from the group. Details are yet to be announced.
