Live Action Cowboy Bebop Movie Might Not Happen with Keanu Reeves

In a recent Q&A session with Keanu Reeves with messaging site Reddit, he was asked about the current state on the live action movie adaptation of the classic anime series Cowboy Bebop. Reeves is said to play the lead character Spike Spiegel.

He replied: “Cowboy Bebop does not look like it is going to happen with me in it. The script that was written was great and amazing, but it would cost like half a billion dollars to make it, and while I wished and hoped I would have done that project, we are working on trying to get Bill & Ted 3. There's a script and we are trying to put it together.

Originally announced back in January 2009, Twentieth Century Fox, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Sunrise had announced they will be co-producing the project. Attached in the film was Erwin Stoff, and Joshua Long as a production supervisor. Producers include Sunrise President Kenji Uchida, the original Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe, and the original series script supervisor Keiko Nobumoto, with Peter Craig writing the film's screenplay.

Cowboy Bebop is a twenty-six episode anime series that's set in the year 2071. It follows the adventures, misadventures and tragedies of a bounty hunter crew — Spike, Jet, Faye, Edward, and Ein — traveling on the Bebop, their starship.

I thank you god for stopping that dribble.

Now that's too bad. Personally, I think Keanu looks the part, and considering he's passionate for the role, I think he could at least do justice to it.

However, unlike Japan, Hollywood is lately all about money (smell the both way sarcams there?), so it's not a surprise if they stop the production just because they don't want to risk a good amount of money for it. Just look at Pacific Rim, now the sequel is 'unlikely' to happen eventhough the director is still geekingly passionate about more of his childhood dream kaiju come true.
