Another week another Kyuranger episode that barely adds any level of intrigue to its cast. Once again, this show puts Lucky on a pedestal while making anyone who has any conflict with him an inept strawman. This week its Hami's turn, who so far has shown fuck all personality up until this episode. From what I've seen of her, she's an entitled brat who can't back up any of the shit she says. It doesn't help that her actress kind of sucks. To make matters worse, it is only to put her up against Lucky, who can do absolutely no wrong. You think Lucky unintentionally instigating with Hami would have both characters learns something from each other as an interesting way of fleshing out both characters. Unfortunately, the writer is just pushing another justification of why the red ranger is so amazing just because he has positive thinking.
The writer is trying to make Lucky seem less insufferable by making him humble by stating the team doesn't need a leader. But, throughout the past couple episodes they've had Lucky hog the spotlight and do all the cool shit, as well as be a fucking mouth piece for the shows messages. A show that did this episode better was Toqger, which while not a particularly good season at least got its message across better within that episode. In that episode, all the characters displayed their strengths prior and during that episode, which made it far more believable when Right stated that everyone could be leader. This is why the message in this episode of Kyuranger falls flat in contrast to that episode of Toqger. Despite all my issues with this episode, it did get some laughs out of me. Examples include Spada almost repeating Lucky's mistake, Ray break dancing in the dance practice, and Raptor imagining herself as an idol during dance practice and saying thank you to a non existent audience.
