Hasbro Now Officially Owns Rights To The Power Rangers Franchise

It's the dawn of a new era as it is confirmed that Hasbro Incorporated, the toy company that brought us Transformers and G.I.JOE, finally owns the rights for the Power Rangers franchise!

Hasbro paid Saban the sum of $522,000,000 for the rights of the Power Rangers franchise and various properties of the Saban Brands with the deal being recently done as reported by Yahoo! Finance.

"Power Rangers will benefit from execution across Hasbro’s Brand Blueprint and distribution through our omni-channel retail relationships globally,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Informed by engaging, multi-screen entertainment, a robust and innovative product line and consumer products opportunities all built on the brand’s strong heritage of teamwork and inclusivity, we see a tremendous future for Power Rangers as part of Hasbro’s brand portfolio."

With that said, we will be seeing the first batch of Power Rangers Beast Morphers merchandise from Hasbro in the upcoming San Diego Comic Convention which will be available next year.

So based on timing it appears that while the toys for beast morphers will be hasbro, the show itself is still a Saban show, hence the title still having "Saban's Power Ranger". Deal is too new for Hasbro to put full imprint on it.

The good news for Hasbro is that to Nick's annoying 2 season structure, they now have two years to put their own spin on it. Whether that's to do their own adaption of sentai series (and can use older properties like toqger, zyuohger, and kyuuranger where they know exactly what footage and toys they have) or to do their own creation.

i think the latter is unlikely but impossible. Remember that hasbro makes toys and has their own production company, albeit mostly focused in animation. They dont have to rely on toys designed by bandai, if they think it's worth the budget they can design toys themselves and then air a completely original show seperate from sentai. there's no rumors to that but i wouldnt be completely shocked if that is at least being discussed. it would allow them to use themes more adaptable to US audiences and they wouldnt have to buy the localization rights from bandai/toei.

Would love to see Hasbro do an animated series for Power Rangers, since Nickelodeon will still be doing the live action series for the next few years. I also have *some* faith in Hasbro to make quality products, and not cheaply made, overpriced rubbish. The idea of a Leader/Voyager Class, proper transforming Zord excites me!
