Shocker Leader's Voice Actor Goro Naya Passes Away at 83
At 83 years old, veteran voice actor Goro Naya passed away on March 5 at 3:00 a.m. due to chronic respiratory failure. He is known to tokusatsu fans as the voice behind the Shocker Leader in the original Kamen Rider Series.
Not only that, he is also the first generation voice of Inspector Zenigata in the long-running Lupin III anime franchise (later replaced by Kouichi Yamadera in later installments), and the voice of Captain Juzo Okita of the original Space Battleship Yamato anime series.
Naya's management, Theatre Echo, made the announcement of his passing on Monday, leaving behind his wife, voice actress Kachiko Hino. Born in Hokkaido, and he dropped out of Ritsumeikan University to enter the Tōdō acting troupe, he made his debut as an actor in 1950s, and later became a dubbing actor for overseas films, as the voices of Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, and John Wayne.
