Live Action Gatchaman's 20 Million Yen G-Suits, Additional Cast Revealed

As we get the first promo for the live-action film adaptation of the classic sci-fi animeScience Ninja Team Gatchaman”, it has been revealed that the "G-Suits" alone costs a total of 20 million yen (about US$200,000)!

According to Nikkatsu, the new suits give the movie a more realistic, "edgier" feel compared with the anime. As you can see in the photos of the five members, this shows how advanced their technology (the film's) is. Apparently, it took over a year to make the "G suits", and to make it be able to withstand action scenes.

Regarding the suits, lead actor Tori Matsuzaka (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger), who plays as the team leader and tactical expert Ken Washio, commented, “the suits were form-fitting for the five of us to move easily for intense action, and allowed us to fly about the shoot freely.”

Set in the near future, Gatchaman follows the story five special agents of the International Science Organization in Tokyo, as they try to protect the world from the mysterious terrorist group who call themselves Galactor. With technology far surpasses that of humans, Galactor has declared war on the entire world and has already subjugated half of it. Trained to draw out the power from the mysterious crystal-like object called a "stone," our five heroes will be called "Gatchaman."

Gatchaman also stars Go Ayano (Kamen Rider 555, Rurouni Kenshin) as second-in-command marksman and weapons expert George Asakura; Ayame Goriki (Mirai Nikki, IS) as the electronics and demolitions expert Jun Ohtsuki; Tatsuomi Hamada (Ultraman Zero, Gokaiger vs Gavan) as the youngest and reconnaissance expert Jinpei Ohtsuki; and, Ryōhei Suzuki (Hana Kimi) as the ship's pilot Ryū Nakanishi.

Other cast includes Goro Kishitani as Dr. Nambu Kozaburo, Ken Mitsuishi as Dr. Kirkland, Eriko Hatsune as Naomi, an original character, and Shido Nakamura as mysterious invader named Iriya.

Directed by Toya Sato (Kaiji, Gokusen), with screenplay by Yūsuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz, Bloody Monday, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods), Gatchaman premieres August 24th.

I actually can't picture Tono-sama as the lead in this team... but we can count on the Japanese to give a pleasant surprise on that, just like the way Rurouni Kenshin did to me.

I like what I see so far. Can't wait to see what the full suits look like. I'm also curious as to what their vehicles will look like, especially the GodPhoenix.
