Man Arrested for Uploading One Piece, Berserk Manga


A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Nagasaki police for on suspicion of scanning books and uploading their scans onto a server for others to download. The man allegedly uploaded scans of Eiichiro Oda's pirate adventure manga One Piece.

According to the authorities, book-digitizing businessman Makoto Fujino scanned and uploaded the first 10 volumes of One Piece on December 14th, 2012, and the first 10 volumes of Berserk and February 20th, 2013. Allegedly, he offer these as a limited service for people who joined his website. Download links were sent directly to the recipient's email.

Fujino was previously arrested for scanning various manga including volumes 1 through 45 of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga and burning them on a DVD-R. The DVD-Rs then will be sold through a website called "50SCANNER." According to the authorities, the said DVD-R was sold for 10,000 yen.
