An article from Sports Hochi newspaper confirms that Tao Tsuchiya (Ultraman Zero The Movie, Tokyo Sonata) will be playing as Makimachi Misao in the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin live action film sequels, scheduled to premiere next year.
It has been confirmed that Rurouni Kenshin will have another two live-action films encompassing the manga/anime's Kyoto Arc. These will be entitled “Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc” and “Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend Arc”.
In the article, she stated that when she saw the first Rurouni Kenshin film, she was nailed to her seat. Joining the audition for the role, she thought to herself, “If I miss this role, all my efforts so far will become meaningless!”
With the filming started back in July and doing many action scenes, she commented, “I’m learning every day because the action requires a sense, such as giving twist to the kick.” She will return to the shooting site in September through the end of the year, but as of now, she is doing various preparations for her role such as swimming and running.
Director Keishi Otomo praised her saying, “Her sensibility is very natural and she has both magnetism and ability.”
The "Kyoto Arc" took place several months after Kenshin joins the Kamiya Dojo. Shishio Makoto plans to conquer Japan by destroying the Meiji Government, starting with Kyoto. Feeling that his friends may be attacked, Kenshin goes to meet Shishio alone in order to defeat him. However, many of his friends, including a young Oniwabanshū named Makimachi Misao, decide to help him in his fight.
