Live-Action Rurouni Kenshin Films Cast Talk: Sequels Becoming More Mature

It was last October when live-action Rurouni Kenshin cast specifically Takei Emi (Kamiya Kaoru), Aoki Munetaka (Sagara Sanosuke) and Oyagi Kaito (Myojin Yahiko) had a word with the media giving their own thoughts about the film.

Just like the first film, the sequels focus their runtimes most on the action scenes only that they make it more intense! According to Aoki, maintaining the same level of action won't make it interesting so they do more spectacular sequences as compared to the first one. Takei even mentioned that she has sensed a feeling of enthusiam around the set that the upcoming films would surpass the first film.

The atmosphere on the set was described by Aoki as "really stimulating and provocative." He also commented that there was even some changes in the costumes since the first film and there was no one doing just routine work on set.

In line with Aoki's comment about the changes in the costumes, it reflects the growth of every character particularly on Kaoru's which made Takei notes that it made her character gets a more "mature" look in the sequels.

Lastly, the cast has also noticed that there are unusually long shoots with multiple camera angles for Japanese cinema. In fact, the 12-year-old Oyagi said that he was able to see a shot on the monitor and thought, "Well, I'll try doing this instead next," and learns a lot about the filmmaking.

Based on the manga/anime's Kyoto Arc, the Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc premieres this August 1 and the follow-up, Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend Arc premieres this September 13.
