It is a sad news indeed that Satoru Iwata passed away at the age of 55 last July 11, 2015. Nintendo had issued an official statement that Iwata had already died. Prior to his death, he had suffered from a bile duct tumor which started out last year, which caused him to miss the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 (Source: Geek.com).
Taking a look back, Iwata began his work in HAL Laboratories during the 1980s where he aided in the creation of Kirby and Earthbound. He was later promoted to become Nintendo's director in the year 2000 and two years later, he became the president of Nintendo. In short, he had been president of Nintendo for 13 years. He was also the first president outside the Yamauchi family.
His quote was, "Video games are meant to be just one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone!"
