Magical Girls, also known as Mahou Shoujo or Majokko, is a sub-genre of Japanese fantasy anime and manga which focuses on girls who use magic. Magical Girls are vested by numerous means with magical powers that can both become a benefit and disadvantage to their lives. However they manage to carry on despite this.
The Magical Girl Warrior sub genre, although being the most notable style of Magical Girl show, didn't hit until the introduction Sailor Moon in. This was a mash of the earlier style shows with the Super Hero genre, notably the Super Sentai formula. Sailor Moon was such a hit that other shows were made in the same fashion.
