AKB48's Minami Minegishi has finally announced her intention to leave the group.
On December 8, 2019 during AKB48's 14th Anniversary special performance, Minami Minegishi has announced that she intends to leave the group.
Minami is by far the only remaining original member since the group was formed and made its debut on December 8, 2005.
Other prominent members who were also part of the founding members are Atsuko Maeda, Minami Takahashi, Haruna Kojima, and Tomomi Itano, who are all still active in showbiz until now.
Minami made international news in 2013, after she was caught in a dating scandal. Afterwards, she posted an apology video on YouTube with her head shaved clean. She was subsequently demoted to trainee status, but was re-promoted and became captain of the reformed Team 4 in August of the same year.
Minami Minegishi will hold a concert on April 2, 2020 at the Yokohama Arena.
