Comedian Ken Shimura Passes Away due to COVID-19


Japanese comedy legend Ken Shimura passes away due to COVID-19 on March 30, 2020. He was 70 years old.

Ken Shimura became famous for his satire and parody show Bakatono-sama and appeared in several variety shows. He has been active for many decades.

According to news reports Ken Shimura had already been hospitalized since March 20, and was only publicly announced 3 days later. He was the 1st celebrity in Japan to have been tested positive for COVID-19 and subsequently, also the 1st celebrity to have passed away due to the disease as well.

Many celebrities have gone to express their grief and condolences on social media, particularly those who have worked closely with the late comedian.
