A new teaser for the upcoming film remake of Space Pirate Captain Harlock (キャプテンハーロック) started airing on Japanese theaters. The film is expected to premiere this Fall.
Written by Leiji Matsumoto back in 1977-79, it tells the story of Captain Harlock who rebels against Earth's inept government and fights for humanity with his crew of 40 aboard the invincible space battleship Arcadia.
Writer Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) reconstructed the story to reflect the themes of modern society, and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) is directing with the latest filmmaking technology. This remake of the classic Leiji Matsumoto manga is reported to cost an equivalent of 30 million U.S. dollars, the highest production budget ever released by Toei Animation!
