This week, the tokusatsu fandom was surprised on TOEI's announcement of the 15th Heisei Kamen Rider series, KAMEN RIDER GAIM, which led to mixed reactions from fans and non-fans alike. And now, the Japanese magazines had officially showcased more photos of the titular Kamen Rider.
Kamen Rider Gaim is Kota Kazuraba, the 2nd dancer for "Team Gaim" but eventually stopped playing the game and left to look for a job, and protect his sister, his only relative. He's a nice guy, and "protecting people" is his very reason in fighting.
He accidentally found the Sengoku Driver. By inserting the Orange Lock Seed into the driver, and then cutting the fruit part, lets him transform into Gaim. His catchphrase: “Passing through the audience, On Stage!” His personal bike is called the Sakura Hurricane.
Kamen Rider Gaim's side weapon is the the Musou Saber, which seems can be used as both a gun and a sword. Additionally, the Orange Lock Seed can grant Gaim an additional weapon, the Daidaimaru, a slice of orange-like sword.
The Musou Saber and Daidaimaru can combine to form a more powerful weapon, the Daidaimaru Naginata Mode.
Lastly, the magazine published a silhouette of Kamen Rider Baron and Ryugen which will be revealed in September's issue of the magazine.
To premiere on October 6th, Kamen Rider Gaim will be directed by Ryuta Tasaki (Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger) and and Takayuki Shibasaki, with scripts from Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet). The show was produced by Motoi Sasaki (TV Asahi) and Naomi Takebe (Toei).
I'm still bugged by the fact that he accidently found the driver.But other than that it's going to be an awesome series.Even Urobuchi is writing the scripts.I have a feeling that Gaim is going to be big and important to the Kamen Rider series.To the haters that keeps on hating the fruit theme it's a kids show! And TOEI want to make money out of it that's why they made a bunch of other toys seperate from the dx version.

He looks like Kamen Rider Kabuki. After Meteor Storm and Beast Hyper we get another blue color-based rider again.
ReplyDeleteI wish to toei let’s have a theme something which is serious for the next rider season like a martial arts theme shaolin style by using the power of a scroll which it can be hold by the mouth of the dragon belt buckle or a return to its cyborg roots with nanobot form or a racing theme like a tiny wheel (just like a beyblade but attached as belt buckle to the belt) as the riders main transformation , or a bird theme (almost like jetman) or an Adventurous theme which is about a search for relic (see here:http://forums.henshinjustice.com/showthread.php?t=75646) but “no” instead they use fruit as the rider power and a sentai way to the gaim season which cause us fans to give it mixed reception well one of us fans will ask toei to give the kamen rider series back to its roots like the showa era or maybe give its cyborg roots to it as well (but my thing will be nanobot type since the nanobot type not only turns the rider into a machine like organism similar to the showa cyborgs ,but also those who are non riders will be turned into machine like monsters)

It's challenging and kinda exciting in a new way that has never been done before by the previous kr shows

Motoi Sasaki likes to mix a lot of ideas at once, like what happened from Go-Onger until Go-Buster. This can be really great, but at the same time can be disastrous x.x

I have to disagree with all you haters...while yes, the fruit theme is rather 'wrong'. I had thought that Fourze was going to annoy the hell out of me, it grew on me and I have to say that I like it more than Wizard. I just can't stand a series that tries too hard to be serious. That's why OOO's and Double were two of the best Rider series in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhile Gaim seems rather comical, it does have promise. A main character whom wants to protect his family and others is a rather familiar. So I personally think this has promise. I look forward to see how this goes

Even I admit to hate this pathetic excuse for a Rider...
however, I also used to hate every single Neo-Heisei Rider when they were first revealed, now I find them on top of almost everyone (including myself's) Top riders list.
I'm actually liking the design the more I see of it.

ReplyDeleteHonestly I think this fruit stuff is beyond stupid. I get putting light hearted stuff from time to time. We already have a fairly serious rider in Wizard. I do like the Samurai part of it. The default form has its upsides. I did adjust to Fourze's design over time. Although I do not recommended that show as a starting point for non fans. I wouldn’t recommend this one either. I would recommend any of the other neo heisei riders and most of the Heisei stuff.

maybe Toei's target is not just kids but ladies/girls also? Because so far the girls reaction to this fruity Kamen Rider is very positive, and plus there will be dancing Ikemen (good looking guy in Japanese)in this series, of couz it is goin to appeal to many girls...

ReplyDeleteYes, they are also becoming the target audience for Kamen Rider series. Why girls? Because they love Ikemens thats why...
I have seen in few LiveJournal communities (especially Tenimyu related), this series is getting a great positive response from them. And Kamen Rider Gaim is the same. Don't be surprised that they are also gearing up for this KR and can't wait for it to start!
Plus KR Gaim will include break dancing right? Imagine Ikemens dancing, that is totally a great appeal to the women viewers..
Remember how you guys hate KR Decade? I wanna reveal to you that gurls actually love KR Decade, because of Masahiro Inoue and even commented that his acting is really good. They even watch all of KR DCD episodes and all of its movies..
Thats why you cant expect KR nowadays to be as dark as Showa Riders, time has changed, more and more people are watching Kamen Rider, not just guys only, so Toei need to experiment a lot to complement and try to satisfy ALL of their target audience..
So please don't hete Toei for this...
Not really on topic but you guys realize that the term "neo-heisei" doesn't make sense? I know what you want it to mean but Showa and Heisei represent the eras in Japan based on who the emperor was, not "old and new" eras of Kamen Rider.
