Kamen Rider Gaim Story, Additional Details Posted

Along with the cast list of the 15th Heisei Kamen Rider series, KAMEN RIDER GAIM, here are some additional details for the new Kamen Rider. Introduced in today's press event are five individual Kamen Riders.

The setting is a emerging city apparently controlled by a corporate giant. Bored kids uses street dance to pass time. They also use small monsters called Inbess, which came from another dimension and hold secret battles. But there are risks in using these as larger holes became a passage for larger and powerful monsters to get to our world.

To fight these Kamen Rider Gaim will stand up as a hero for justice!

Using the Sengoku Driver which cuts the Lock Seed and opening a small hole to this other world, the user can transform to one of these: Kamen Rider Gaim, who uses the "Orange Lock Seed" and the "Pineapple Lock Seed" to summon "Orange Arms" and "Pineapple Arms", Baron, a Western Armor motif and uses the Banana theme; the Chinese Armor motif Ryugen who uses Grapes, Griton who uses Coconut, and Zangetsu who uses Melon.

Kamen Rider Gaim is Kota Kazuraba, the 2nd dancer for "Team Gaim" but eventually stopped playing the game and left to look for a job, and protect his lonely sister. He's a nice guy, and "protecting people" is his very reason in fighting. He accidentally found the Sengoku Driver. His catchphrase: “Passing through the audience, On Stage!

Kamen Rider Baron is Kaito Kumon, the leader of "Team Baron", Team Gaim's rival. Growing up as a poor guy, he always believed that the weak warriors are exploited. He is now hungry for power.

Kamen Rider Ryugen is Mitsuzane Kuwashima, a member of Team Gaim and Kota sees him as his younger brother. Though he kept this as a secret, in reality, he is the son of the leader of the Yggdrasil Corporation and attends an elite high school. He wants to live freely won't accept the path established for him.

An aspiring pro dancer and a childhood friend of Kota, Mai Takatsukasa takes care of all of the members of Team Gaim. Though he thinks of Kota as her rival, she actually adores him.

Kamen Rider Zangetsu is Takatora Kureshima, Mitsuzane's older brother and holds a high position at the Yggdrasil Corporation. Although he is a ruthless realist, he still loves his family and spoils his younger brother. His catchphrase is “Authorized by divine providence!

Other members of Team Gaim are: Chucky the top-level dancer, the easy-going and not so good dancer Rika, and the team's mood maker, Rat. Meanwhile, other members of Team Baron are the loyal and trustworthy Zach, who's the 2nd-in-command, and Peko who plots to win at Inbess Games in a makeshift fashion.

Supporting cast includes Kota's sister Akira Kazuraba who works as an office worker at a subsidiary of Yggdrasil, and Kiyojiro Bando, the owner of a fruit parlor "Droopers". Team Gaim are regular customers at Kiyojiro's Droopers.

As always, there are mysterious characters in the show. Sid, the Lock Dealer, who sells Lock Seeds to young guys to facilitate their Inbess Games. Definitely having a motive behind all of this, no one really knows where he gets them. Lastly, there's pirate radio DJ Sagara who incites the excitement in joining Inbess Games, and making it fashionable.

To premiere on October 6th, Kamen Rider Gaim will be directed by Ryuta Tasaki (Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger) and and Takayuki Shibasaki, with scripts from Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet). The show was produced by Motoi Sasaki (TV Asahi) and Naomi Takebe (Toei). Shounan no Kaze will be singing the main theme.

Thanks to Herotaku for the additional translations.

  7. okay i have few things to say the series might be a combination of metal hero and super sentai type with five kamen riders with a element of fourze high school setting but in a kamen rider tradition it focus on a main protagonist who is a rookie named Kota Sakuraba otherwise known as Gaim.

  8. and another if its not good its time we fans will find a way how to give our ideas to toei.

  9. By the way i think gaim is truly a kamen rider because his mouthpiece looks similar to some showa rider.

  11. I am definitely going to watch this. Been a while since we have a 5 rider series other that Ryuuki and Kabuto. Funny thing though, Melon Rider looks like Kabuto!

  15. What is this I don't even....

Sounds like the plot of Jet Set Radio.

  16. On gaimu's belt in the first picture you can see two devices that look like lock seeds. They appear to be pineapple (obvious if you read the article) and strawberry. I wonder how strawberry will. A new form? A new weapon? The story details are interesting. I guess we'll have to wait and see what this new rider is all about.

  17. he doesn't look like a kamen rider..

  18. Kamen rider Zangetsu? So this is Ichigo's new bankai? :P

  19. The designs are not as bad as I first thought though. At the moment I see them as just needing some getting used to. I remembered many KR fans initially moaned when Decade's images first surfaced. I admit that I didn't fancy a pink KR either at that time, but it grew on me. So we'll see...

Other than that, I think it's a good runaway from the usual concept. Gangs rivalry through KR? That sounds ok to me haha

  20. Why is the actor's hand so long in the second picture?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Huh?! The urobutcher will be one of the writers? O.o

looks like toei needs to hire some therapists for the kids (but then again, the guy mellowed a little with gargantia).

  22. It looks like this show draws some influence from Pokemon, Digimon, and/or Yugioh, but with the concept of how messed up and evil various aspects of them would be in real life. I'm actually really excited for this now, cause it looks like something no other KR series has done before. Plus, it looks like there will be LOTS of rider-on-rider conflict, which I love!

    ReplyDelete
  23. You know, it kind of makes sense for them to all have the same belt, so that way, kids don't have to buy five separate belts, and instead, just get one belt with five different accessories. Ryuki did the same thing with their card decks, so it's not unheard of.

  24. Gen Urobuchi as the head writer?!
Are you sure that's okay Toei?

  25. so much cynicism. Are you saying you aren't looking forward to small dance teams overthrowing a large company in order to seize control of the city? Sengoku period basis afterall.

  28. You had my interest at the Samurai theme, then you hooked me with with the Blue/Orange color scheme, now with these story details Kamen Rider Gaimu has handcuffed me to my computer. October cannot come fast enough.
Hopefully I can check out his cameo in the wizard movie to hold me over.

  29. Gaimu looks nice but i dont like this fruit idea

    ReplyDelete
  30. So it's not Fruit Ninja it's Dancing, Monster Battling, Fruit Samurai.

I'm still interested in watching this.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The fruit thing is not that stupid. I mean in one piece they people eat fruit to get amazing abilities and toriko is has a food and cooking motif so this fruit idea is not that bad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Take one part Ryuki (universal belts), one part Den-O (interchangeable chest pieces for forms), and add fruit and you have a literal Kamen rider smoothie. This should be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Anonymous July 25,
You do have a point thats why it has a samurai theme since sengoku means a samurai type war.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Okay, I might have judged too soon when I heard the design was based on fruits. It actually looked badass. And many rider ala Kabuto? Sold.

But, Urobochi? Well, I admit that his story telling is quite unique and interesting but I have never really feel engaged with any of his characters. (Sorry Urobochi's fan)

Let's hope he will prove me wrong.

  35. Looks bulky... would be nice if he drops his body armor thingy like kabuto.

  36. Kamen Rider Is Now Officially For Kids.July 26, 2013 at 1:02 AM

    >When grown-ass men still don't realize that the plot is supposed to be aimed towards young Japanese kids not 20/25 year old American dudes.

  37. wow... they really weren't kidding about the fruit thing, still looks interesting either way

    ReplyDelete
  38. In my opinion it seems that the lock seed in the first picture is pinapple and apple.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just a realization: Gaim looks a bit like Bima from BIMA: Satria Garuda, Ryugen looks like Mele from Gekiranger, Griton is like a Rider version of the Dummy Dopant, and Zangetsu looks like a fusion of mostly Den-O Wing form and a bit of Sword form (just because he uses a sword).

  40. Looking at these riders makes me wanna fanta.

    ReplyDelete
  41. There are two things I like about this. One they actually somewhat kept with the armor warrior/martial arts theme that was suppose to happen. A western armor rider and a Chinese based armor rider is awesome. The whole evil corporation thing is also great.

The inbess game thing is kinda interesting. Can't wait to see it all unravel. A lot great action and characters. The villains do look a Japanese rock band, which is lame. The catchphrases are also funny “Passing through the audience, On Stage!” and “Authorized by divine providence!”. Decade and the Shinkengers aren't gonna like this hahaha. This is all good. But I still don't understand the fruit theme. It has nothing to do with fruit. This is the one thing that pisses me off. This could of just been like a Ryuki remake with the armored warriors and playing a game etc.. The fruit just makes it weird and ruins it.

  42. Im still confused though, who's playing the role of griton or did I just not read it good enough?

  44. @The Manga Kid
Unfortunately, Kamen Rider Gaim wouldn't appear as the cameo in the upcoming Wizard In Magic Land movie.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Fruit Samurai will be one of the worse Karmen Rider themes ever. I do not even think the BEST writer can save that suit. Karmen Rider has Jumped the Shark

    ReplyDelete
  46. Urobutcher is head writing?

Well I just lost sleep forever

    ReplyDelete
  47. Since Urobuchi is the head writer, I wonder if they included the fruit theme JUST to make the series appear slightly less dark than it actually is!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok, orange lock activates "Orange Slice"
There's pineapple and strawberry (likely) locks..
His weapon, looks like a gun sword, similar to Ixa...

The other riders, Ryugen, shoots grapes...
Baron, using a banana spear to poke enemies

    ReplyDelete
  49. Again, as I said on the previous post... we're missing a name of one of the Rider. We still don't have human name for the Coconut one right? Previous post only has 3 out of 5, this one adds the 4th one. I'm guessing the next post will add the 5th?

    ReplyDelete
  50. No one has said anything about the theme song yet . . . personally I'm looking forward to Shonannokaze (Japanese Reggae Fruit Rider) how you liken them apples, mon?

    ReplyDelete
  51. basically this season is about a kind rookie, who joins a dance team, who has a rival dance team and accidently becomes kamen rider gaim? so many riders oh man ,but it looks fun. I just hope it doesn't become a mess with all the samurai fruit dancing theme. Im going to give it a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Those are Fruit Ninjas! Hehehehe!

  53. urobuchi :
    some rider must be dead

  54. Ok, I'm getting a little anxious about the quality of this new Kamen Rider show here.

The suits look weird, but that can be ok if they don't get much more flashy with the secondary forms (pineapple...).

What really bothers me is the themes. So far, if I understand, we'll have : armored warriors, fruits, locks, street dance and small monsters. That's too much, especially if you have to fit some of the classic themes as well (riders, bike, protecting the people). I can't even relate 2 of them together in any way. I'm not sure why, but that screams "TOYS" to me.

Maybe that's all the themes that they thought weren't big enough to make a whole show, so they just tossed all of them together ?

Plus there seems to be a bunch of supporting characters (à la Fourze) : 5 riders, at least 2 dance teams and some more. The focus is bound to be spread all-around.

Well, we'll see. I hope I'm wrong and really want to enjoy the show but I'm getting a little dubious, and that's not because of the fruit riders.

And since I was waiting for a show with either 3+ riders or only one, I want this to work.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Urobuchi: dead riders, a main rider being anti-hero until later in the story when they'll explain his dark past, and so on

Motoi Sasaki as producer?!?! That explains why this serie seems so strange(after what he did from Go-Onger until Go-Busters...)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hopefully it's like Blade except with a faster flowing plot.

  57. Distribution of Lock Seeds now...wonder if Foundation X will be involved as the Antagonists investors again.
