Ano Hana Anime Film Debuts at #3, Earns 198 Million Yen
It has been announced the the compilation film of the drama anime series Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day earned 198,177,700 yen (about US$1.989 million) from 161,225 tickets on its debut weekend last August 31st.
The film, seen at 64 screens throughout Japan, debuts at the third spot of Kogyo Tsushinsha's Cinema Ranking Tsūshin.
Telling the story from Menma's point of view, AnoHana focuses on a group of six childhood friends drift apart after Menma dies in an accident. Ten years later, Jinta has withdrawn from society and lives as a recluse. One summer day, the ghost of an older looking Menma appears before him and asks to have a wish granted, reasoning that she cannot pass on into the afterlife until it is fulfilled.
