Power Rangers Super Megaforce Cameos Suited for Action! [Updated]

[Update #4] Actor Jason David Frank posted photos of the Power Rangers Super Megaforce filming that happened earlier today, and will continue until tomorrow, May 26th. In the cameo episode, Tommy Oliver will be taking the suit of the iconic Green Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Present in the filming are:
  • Jason Faunt - Wes/Red Time Force Ranger
  • Jason David Frank - Tommy/Green Ranger
  • Danny Slavin - Leo/Galaxy Red
  • Melody Perkins - Karone/Galaxy Pink II
  • Reggie Rolle - Damon/Galaxy Green
  • Selwyn Ward - T.J./Blue Space Ranger
  • Sean Cw Johnson - Carter/Red Lightspeed Ranger
  • Hector David Jr - Mike/Green Samurai Ranger
  • Brittany Pirtle - Emily/Yellow Samurai Ranger
  • Alison MacInnis - Dana/Pink Lightspeed Rescue Ranger
  • Patricia Ja Lee - Cassie/Pink Space Ranger
From what I can see, they seem to be filming Power Rangers' version of the "Legend War" with the previous cast members present in the filming as the one who's leading the "Historical Power Rangers".

In another photo, we can see a scenario of the Tommy/Green Ranger passing his "Dragon Armor" to Mike/Green Samurai Ranger. This is probably just them goofing around off camera.

Above is a photo posted by Jason Faunt via Instagram with Jason David Frank.

And... a newly uploaded photo, by Ciara Hanna (Yellow Megaforce Ranger) via Instagram, of the long history of Power Rangers ready for battle!

Meanwhile, here's a photo of Sean Cw Johnson and Alison MacInnis in suit. At back, you can see the other guest stars for the episodes, including Reggie Rolle and Melody Perkins.

Lastly, here's a photo of helmetless Jason David Frank along with the participating rangers in the Legend War.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce is the 21st season of Power Rangers continuing the celebration of the series 20th anniversary. The Megaforce rangers, will acquire a new "power up" in Super Megaforce and must be in this "new power-up" (Gokaiger suit) to transform into past rangers... This will also feature the appearance of the "legendary rangers".

Amazing.. (:o but we'll just let the show have its fate if its improved its quality or if its ratings goes higher in the season finale and the super mega force's first half.:|

Oh by the way nice mixture of both new zealand and japanese stuntmen

How did Tommy reacquire the green ranger power? Must find out

  5. Anonymous Says:

    O.o

    Well that surprised me!

  6. That's so cool it hurts. Can't wait to see it :)

  7. Anonymous Says:

Those were cool pictures. I wish they got at least one actor from a past series, but the nostalgia bomb exploded with this one.

  8. Anonymous Says:

First question that popped into my mind: If Tommy is using his MMPR Green Ranger powers and TJ is using his Blue Space Ranger power, then who's running around as the Red Turbo Ranger in the Great War footage that's been shown during the Megaforce TV show?

  9. Really? They're using the Fighting Spirit green ranger helmet??

  10. Anonymous Says:

This looks awesome to say th least, but it culd have been better wit atleast 5 more rangers in the mix. With that said it looks like the actors are having a good time with each other and the other cast.

  11. Anonymous Says:

A big LOL to the reports of only 10 returning. Goes to show you how unreliable Fury and a bunch of other sources are. Freaking epic seeing everyone back! Can't wait for SM!

okay look somewhat tolerable so far..

Look at the geezer standing it at Overdrive Red

  14. Oh my God . . .. !!!!!!!!! Finally good news about Megaforce, there still hope for all Power Rangers Fans, so awesome

  15. Anonymous Says:

I can't wait for them to explain how cassie is standing there as the pink space ranger while the pink turbo ranger is on the other side

  16. Maikii Says:

What happened to Red Time Force Ranger Wes? :(

  17. Anonymous Says:

how the heck can he even change into the MM green ranger!? those powers are gone!
they only form he has left is Zeo Ranger one because he gave up Turbo and the Dino Gem for black was used up at the end of that series.
can't Saban do they fucking research.

and if someone says that its fine because they don't explain it in Gokaiger then your freaking wrong too. its wrong there as well because the Dragon Ranger powers are more then gone the character is dead.

would it have been so hard to get him in the Zeo ranger costume? but noooo. he is most known for being the Green Ranger so screw the plot line of the past shows lets just give him the first powers he ever had and ignore the emotional trials he went through in the past when he lost them.

  18. Anonymous Says:

If I had to write the script for the legend war in super megaforce. I would have used time travel. The greatest crisis is coming and Alpha needs every ranger throughout the history of power rangers to team up to battle the ultimate evil force. Alpha travels back in time to recruit every ranger in time. This way all the rangers can exist in the war and all the powers will still be usable. So now they would just be different Tommys and Cassidys etc.. It might be cheesy but I'm sure it's going to be a better explanation than what saban has in store (if they are even going to acknowledge it).

  19. Chester McMuffin Says:

    Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey.

  20. Anonymous Says:

Gosei is Zordon's student. He probably temporarily restored their powers. And it could be Cat in the Turbo suit.

  21. Anonymous Says:

Because it was in the script lol. I have a feeling continuity might be thrown out for pure awesome.

I don't like Saban as much as you do, but could you cool it down on the anger? Adam's MM powers were restored by Sentinel Knight's magic, as was Kira's Dino Gem. And 5 years before that. Red Rangers who lost their powers gained them back. Any plot device could be used to restore any power in this show.

  23. Anonymous Says:

Easy way to explain the Green powers: the clone had en in Return of the Green Ranger and gave it to Tommy

  24. Anonymous Says:

Time travel is the best explanation I can think off.
Because in Time Force... do what you want, screw the consequences!

  25. Luke Says:

To those saying why TJ is blue space ranger, when the red turbo ranger is in the back, and Cassie is in the pink space suit, but her pink turbo suit is somewhere, it really wouldn't make a difference, since if it would be the other way around, you guys would be saying the same thing.

  26. ARALE NORIMAKI Says:

The original Green Ranger powers in the original Dragon Coin were decimated due to the candle used by Rita to drain the Green Ranger power. The original Dragon Coin's connection to the Morphing Grid, the primary source for all Ranger power access was severed.

  27. ARALE NORIMAKI Says:

Tom Oliver was an exact clone of Tommy Oliver that was created and enchanted by the Wizard of Deception to serve as the Evil Green Ranger for Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa

However, the Dragon powers given to Tom and sent back into the past with him circumvented this problem by using an alternate power source or by using a newly established connection; How Lord Zedd would be able to achieve that is unknown, however. Either way, the fact remains that the Green powers were indeed "genuine" enough for the Dragonzord to awaken and respond. One possibility is that when Tommy's powers ran out the second time, they returned to Rita as they would have had he not passed his coin to Jason. Since Tommy failed to pass his coin on the second time, Rita would logically have gotten the powers back and could thus create a new Green Ranger.

Are you really questioning the logic of the series?
    Really?
    Fine, it's magic.
Nope, it was billy behind the scenes.
Actually, it was just the power or the secret sentais who've protected the world for decades but are never heard from again after they've worked for about a year.
Stop questioning the logic, this is power rangers bitch!!!

Though this looks awesome. I'm guessing they're not going to try to be like gokaiger where they got a hero to represent each season and pass their powers. Not great, but not bad either. Hopefully they succeed in one thing gokaiger failed at and end the series with a second great war.
But, I'll watch nonetheless because fucking tommy is back.

    Anon at 8:32 PM

I don't mean to sound like I'm defending him, but Fury's sources are limited in what they can say. In truth, for now the only other person not from the 10 rangers list is Patricia Lee.

  31. Anonymous Says:

They do have a walking Deus Ex Machina in the form of the Sentinel Knight who is able to restore ranger powers (doubt they are using that idea though). He also has the Corona Aurora which can pretty much break the laws of nature entirely. I don't like Operation Overdrive, but it did bring about those two into continuity. lol

    @ Anonymous May 25, 2013 at 9:53 PM :

Silver needs Green Ranger's power to summon GoZyuJin.
that's why Tommy is Green Ranger, not Zeo...

PLEASE, GET AUSTIN ON THE SHOW AND IT'LL BE THE BEST ANNIVERSARY EVAR!

  34. Anonymous Says:

Wow. Overdrive Red has NOT aged well. :P

Seriously, though, this is freaking awesome! :D

  35. Anonymous Says:

Tommy got the Green Ranger powers the same way he got his powers in Dino Thunder. He had a "Spirit Journey" to fight for the right to get the powers back for that ranger. He did this even before Dino Thunder when all of the MMPR ranger were turned into kids and the alien rangers had to cover for them.

Simply put: Tommy oliver is the next Zordon of the PR Universe.

  36. Anonymous Says:

to the one anon @ 10:50 pm who has suggested the theory of time travel, you have created a great story. you should be on the writing staff for this show to save its face. now the key is who would you hire to serve you? you will be a great head writer since your mind can really crank out a good story, for the war your explanation is much better.

  37. Anonymous Says:

Patrica Ja Lee is there too.
I was hoping for Amy Jo Johnson too.

  40. Anonymous Says:

Interesting. Based on the reports from JEfusion and other places, these cameos should take place at the finale. So, it looks like the Legends war will end Megaforce as oppose to being the starting point like it was for Gokaiger.

    I like that.

It gives something to lead up to for the entire season and a half with Troy's visions (am i the only one who likes the actor? cause i do. he comes across stoic to me, much like jason in the first and second season).

My question is are they going to use goseiger or gokaiger costumes (or both?) in legends war? I also would not be shocked if they splice in legends war with the final battle from gokaiger vs goseiger.

Think about it. It would be the one time they can use both "Megaforce" Megazords, and it does heavily feature Vrak. The only difficulty i see with the footage is replacing the scene where they showed all the Sentai mechas with ones just from MMPR. there was no set order so only way i can picture doing it is either photoshopping in secondary zords (dragonzord, tigerzord, etc) in place of the unused sentai mechas or redoing those scenes entirely.

I still find it interesting that they chose Daizyujin/original MMPR megazord in gobusters vs gokaiger and i would not be entirely shocked if that costume is used in a new zord fight.

  41. Here hoping!!!!
In regarding to Tommy's Green Ranger restored power, In PRDT episode, Tommy was unfused only to knock unconscious and the space rock apparently restore his Green power to permanent state. Can't wait for the special.

  42. Anonymous Says:

Come on guys, asking why the Turbo and Space Rangers are standing together? Did we forget that Zordon made robot clones of the Turbo rangers to help him on Eltar? Hmmmm?

  43. Anonymous Says:

is it really that hard to imagine that some powers were passed onto new Rangers, vis a vis Jason-Zack-Trini to Rocky-Adam-Aisha, Kimberley-Kat, Aisha-Tanya, Rocky-Justin, etc?

Green SPD would certainly not be the same character, given he was promoted to Red as shown in Once a Ranger.

Besides, Justin/Blake Foster would probably be Red Turbo, and have gotten himself a new team. Powers don't cease because a Ranger retires.

  44. Anonymous Says:

Well it'll be kinda weird if you think to indept into like how there are 5 tommy's running around. And hopefully they write the plot so it can explain how the rangers still have their powers cause most of the time rangers lose their ranger power at the end. Plus, if they copy gokaigers and make people spirits then they can get away with a lot. Sadly for them, no ranger dies in power rangers

  45. Anonymous Says:

    No Disney Ranger?

    Not cool Saban

  46. Anonymous Says:

i think there is a plan for the disney suits and it could be the following: 1. they have JP and NZ stuntmen or women behind them
    2. ADR work
    3. the original suit actors

my concern is will the disney suits even receive ranger keys in the toyline?

do you think due to bandai's idea (zord builder) being present the keys are required to interact with the pointless things the line has aside from the morphers (american mobirate, american gokai cellular)?

It will be a great year regardless of what happens. my concern is for the american keys and how we're going to do it in comparison to the Japanese.

  47. Hairball Says:

Anonymous from May 26, 2013...ur statement about a ranger never dying...is false....Kendrix DID "die" in Lost Galaxy...and why? to write Valerie out of the script while she was dealing with Leukemia...and she was revived at the end when the sabres were returned to the stone....and as far as people wondering how the mmpr green powers were restored....3 words...DEUS EX MACHINA!!!!! thats how all the other powers were restored n what not....

Let me throw down the truth.
It's a show for kids, it's on a kids cable network.
Kids don't analyze their shows, when we watched them we didn't either.
This is why they get away with it.
As a fan, fogey the details, enjoy the event.

    BTW Riders trump rangers !

in power ranger Ninja Storm it is suggested that all previous series were just comic book

Little bit disappointed about the mighty morphin alien rangers :( but Tommy looks amazing in his green ranger suit. Can't wait to see more pics of legend war!!!!

  53. Anonymous Says:

@Marty – If the overall past Power Rangers special presentations are of any guide or indication, the one of the upcoming Power Rangers installment, Super Megaforce, is just going to be the same and lame (considering the inconsistencies in the storylines of many past Power Rangers shows) as the past special presentations regardless of how many veteran Power Rangers actors/actresses or which ones of such are in the current one. Just because the Power Rangers show has fairly good TV viewer ratings, thanks to the targeted audience who happens to be kids, that does not mean it is a good show. You expressed disappointment in such TV series on certain occasions and now you seem to be giving it a benefit of a doubt?!! It just won’t make any difference!

  54. The same way they did in gokaiger. Through the power of the keys =P

  58. So far what I'm seeing here is okay. Seeing that there are no torrents after episode 9 means superforce is the make or break of the entire Power Rangers franchise so they better not screw it up.

  59. Anonymous Says:

its good to analyze what is wrong so they can do better next time.

  60. DukeMum Says:

In Any case, they need plots to explain the great power or zords from the various series... Lion zord from Wild Force which also become powerito for samurai... SPD zord, Mystic Force Dragon, RPM zord and Ninja Storm zord...

Oh shut up you purist weaboo.

Anyway, It's awesome to see tha JDF did just like what he said he would do. Make an appearance in PRSM. And I do understand also every one opinion about some of the rangers not returning. Actually I'm starting to see that surprises are now on their way for us fans. Surely their aware of what gokaiger did right. So with that said, I'm really hoping that this will revive my interest in MMPR series but also this would become an awesome season for them.

  62. SW Says:

The last time we saw TJ he was the Red Turbo Ranger so why is he the blue space ranger this is ridiculous.

  67. Anonymous Says:

No Wild Force, no Ninja Storm, no SPD, no Mystic Force, no Operation Overdrive, no RPM.

Jason Smith was spotted on the set so I assume there WILL be Jungle Fury. Still sad that so many seasons get no real recognition (and I realize those are Disney seasons)

  68. Anonymous Says:

Oh look its SPD Blue Ranger Sky's dad with JDF

  69. marty Says:

Hey they do include a titanium ranger in the megaforce finale and super megaforce first episode

  70. marty Says:

    @annoymouswho replied to me
Well if you think that the super megaforce will be considered "same and lame" like the others what will we do convince saban to cancel the show after super megaforce season is ended or when it aired in 2014.

  71. Interesting to note that the Magna Defender is there with all the Rangers, whereas his Japanese counterpart Black Knight was part of a smaller team of Extra Heroes who only showed up in the Gokai/Gosei movie. Since that was the explanation for how Vasco got the Extra Hero Keys, maybe there won't be an equivalent for him in Super Megaforce.

  72. Anonymous Says:

Ah ha! I knew I swathe titanium ranger from that shoot on set

    TITANIUM RANGER ZOMG WTF BBQ!!!

But seriously wait a moment. My original theory that Rhett Fisher was dropped was because they had no Titanium Ranger suit, but here it is. WTF Saban!?! He better be working with Tamashii to get a Titanium Ranger SHFiguart out to make up for that.

And while we're on this subject, how about the state of Power Rangers on TV today? It seems Nickelodeon WANTED to get rid of it the moment they picked it up. After the Morphenomenon, Power Play, and Colors of Courage (the latter which I didn't watch because of the Yu-Gi-Oh! debacle and because my batteries were dead) Nicktoons hasn't done much else with this show. We all know this Saturday will be another (as I call it) "Day Without Power Rangers" because Nickelodeon has pulled it from its usual 1pm timeslot as a ratings ploy so it can get good ratings for Sam & Cat and beat Disney Channel, which has moved premieres of ITS shows to the same night. Like I said, Nickelodeon is trying to get rid of this show because it's "not working out for them". And people keep thinking Power Rangers will return to Vortexx on the CW, but I don't see that happening, because of all the constant schedule changes, Sonic X is apparently more popular, and, from what I've heard, The CW has problems with the content. If the latter's true, which it probably is, we can't and won't expect Power Rangers to return to the CW. In short, Nickelodeon hates Power Rangers and The CW (apparently) hates Power Rangers, and (with the exception of Kabillion), no other network will pick it up. Face it, guys, this is the franchise's 20th anniversary, and the NETWORKS DON'T CARE, and although Super Megaforce hasn't started yet, you can bet Nickelodeon will get rid of this show before August even starts, because, as we all know, THAT's Power Rangers' true anniversary month. As BurgundyRanger from Power Rangers On-Air Central puts it, "If they can't step up then, Saban Brands needs to get out [of the deal with Nick]". I know you don't wanna read this because we're SUPPOSED to celebrate this show's 20th anniversary, but even YOU can understand that both Nickelodeon and The CW's hatred of Power Rangers is unfathomable.

  82. Anonymous Says:

Or maybe they explain it in the show. Adams black ranger powers were restored once.

Also why is karone galaxy pink when kendrix reclaim th pink role in lightspeed rescue "trakeenas revenge".

I just wanted so bad that at least one Wild Force Ranger would show up, and not three from Lost Galaxy, how the hell did that happen? And as a Brazilian fan of the super sentai and the power rangers format, couldn't they just nod at the fact that there were 15 other groups before the original MMPR?
I'm not saying giving all of them roles or anything, just freaking account for them, let them fight along the others!
It was said during a season (can't remember which) that there were other rangers around! I saw the japanese episode, is freaking epic (except for the toy Zords becoming real Zords, that was stupid), and they didn't even have as much actors from the past as Saban is bringing back.
It's a win win! They would have tons of extra footage to use, more stories arc, and I would get to see Changeman, Flashman and Jetman again! But I dream...

Finally someone with a brain and not an overanalyzing fanb oy mind. These theories while good are too complicated for this show. Time travel, clones, maybe, but simple: gosei says we need you tommy, tommy says yes, tommy is given a choice of what power he can reclaim either just for the war or permanaently and he's presented with keys. He says ill go green, fully powered. End of story and enjoy. Ps austin st. John was a money hungry toad, hence screw having him back.
