Pokémon XY Mega Evolution Explained, New Trailer Released

With the revelation of the new Mega Evolution feature yesterday, many have been wondering on how one can evolve into this state. A new trailer for the latest installments of the Pokémon game franchise, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y explains it.

Mega Evolution is only available in-battle. A capable Pokémon can only evolve into this state if they hold a specific "Mega Stone". For example, Blaziken can only evolve to MegaBlaziken if it holds Blazikenite during battle, etc. Available Mega Evolutions are MegaAbsol, MegaMawile, MegaMewtwo, MegaLucario and MegaAmpharos.

A Torchic will be distributed from October 12th to January 15th, which holds a new item Blazikenite Mega Stone and has Speed Boost as its Hidden Ability. This will be the first event for Pokémon XY

Players will learn about Mega Evolutions at Shalour City, home of the Tower of Mastery and the spirited gym leader Korrina. She is looking for ways to unlock the hidden potential of her Pokémon.

Additionally, the Super Training Facility has now been explained. Super Training allows players to help their Pokémon grow stronger when they’re not in battle. On the Touch Screen of the Nintendo 3DS system, players can have their Pokémon participate in certain activities that will increase a Pokémon’s base stats.

Lastly, the three new species will be called Dedenne, Skiddo and Bunnelby.

Pokémon X & Pokémon Y will be available for the Nintendo 3DS, and are scheduled to be released worldwide this October 12th. Pre-order now at Play-Asia and get FREE SHIPPING!

Do you guys think this "MegaEvolution" is considered a temporary "mutation"? X and Y do have a hidden focus on genetics.

When I first head of this I thought "As if people didn't think Blaziken was cheap enough" then they release a torchic with the ability that gave people that [admittedly valid especially now] opinion.

and the whole temporary evolution thing is not helping the whole people crying out "this is digimon now" thing...

Remember when I said this mega evolution was a ripoff of power rangers? Yeah well thinking about now, it also rip offs kamen rider form changes. And these new pokemon get duller each generation a mice, dog and a bunny. Pokemon needs to end. If they can't think of anything new and original for designs thats when you know a franchise is dead.

    Forgot MegaMawile

As I said before, this is actually not something new because it has been done in previous title in the feature called Form Changes. The only major difference is that the Pokemon that can achieve this 'evolution' is already in its final stage of evolution, and previously didn't have that ability by default. So it's NOT a natural evolution.
This year's movie, which features Mega Mewtwo, explained as to why it can happen... I won't tell the reason because it would be spoiling, but it's totally not ripping off other series.
I personally like Blaziken, Ampharos and Mawile, they look awesome.

Granted that it's not something new, but it is new for Pokemon. They got to borrow other ideas so that it will make the newest game looks different.

While I think the concept of mega evolution is pretty cool, I think they could have gone another route with naming it.. It seems to rip on Digimon too much. But why the mega form for Lucario? It's only a stage two so why can't that be it's legit evolved form?

according to the site it's a temporary boost of power and you can Only use it in battle and ONLY have ONE.
