Yutaka Kobayashi on the Hate of Bananas, Turning Down Gokaiger

Yutaka Kobayashi, known as Kaito Kumon/Kamen Rider Baron in the ongoing Kamen Rider Gaim TV series, sat down in an interview with Hyper Hobby Magazine. Here, he talked about his hate for bananas and supposed role in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.

Kobayashi states that, being a fan of the Kamen Rider franchise, he's happy after getting the role. He even compared Gaim with Kamen Rider Ryuki, his favorite series, due to the use of multiple riders. Additionally, Kamen Rider Baron is based of a knight, just like Ryuki. "I can actually imagine kids putting bananas to their ears and pretending to be Baron. I’ve been doing it myself already," he said.

But he was skeptical knowing that he will play Kamen Rider Baron, which is based on a banana, due to the fact that he dislike bananas. He even recollects one instance that he participated in a marathon once, and only ate bananas that day. At the end of the day, He later felt so sick and blamed everything on the bananas. "The first thing I do when I get the script is checking if I need to eat bananas. I’m actually scared that it’s gonna happen soon."

Kobayashi reveals that he always wanted to be a Kamen Rider once he become an actor, stating that it's a stepping stone for new actors in landing a bigger role in the future. It is remembered that Hiro Mizushima and Takeru Sato became really big actors after playing Kamen Riders themselves!

"He’s the complete opposite of me," he replied when asked about the difficulties on playing as Kaito. Although he might come off as a jerk, Kobayashi assures fans that this is a story of growing up and it’s gonna be interesting to see how he changes and matures.

Being simplistic is how Kobayashi defines Baron's transformation pose. He coordinates regularly with suit actor Eitoku. Even though they are trying hard to coordinate together, they came to the conclusion to keep things simple.

Lastly, the interview reveals that he auditioned for Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, and passed until the end, but he turned it down for another project. The said role was later given to Ryota Ozawa, which, undoubtedly, looks similar to Kobayashi on certain camera angles.

LOL he was gonna be Captain Marvelous??? wow. Something tells me Baron is like Seto Kaiba from yugioh. Asshole all around but becomes heroic and respectable at the end.

well . . . if you see . . . gaim final form or final armor can we see at the end of the opening . . . the scene where we see gaim use motorcycle . . . if you pause at 03:02 . . . you can seen that final form

  4. Gotta wonder how would it have been liked if he had portrayed Marvelous. That would have been very different from what we saw in Gokaiger (I still love how Ryota Ozawa played Marvelous)

  5. D Says:

Interesting. I could see him as Marv. Seems like they had a certain look in mind when casting because he and Ryota more than look alike.

So, he's the discount Captain Marvelous then?

Yutaka could've been Captain Marvelous?! Wow... didn't expect that.

When I saw that Yutaka hated bananas, I thought: "Ah... irony at one of it's finest." Also at irony's finest is the fact Kaito's costume is similar to Marvelous.

An yay! My favorite Kamen Rider actors are mentioned in this! Too bad they haven't reprise their roles in a while... .

Wow! and I thought that he's resemblance to Ryota Ozawa (Captain Marvelous) is just a coincidence. He really looks, dress and acts like Captain Marvelous! :)
