Doraemon Defeats Godzilla on Total Number of Audience — TOHO

Ever since it debuted on theaters in 1980, Japanese film and distribution company TOHO announced that Doraemon had already become the most-watched film series in Japan, drawing more than 100 million audiences.

The most recent film, the 34th Doraemon film “Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum” had attracted an audience of 1.56 million in the 2 weeks since its release. The film debuted at the top spot of Japan Box Office Weekend, earning 684,332,313 yen (US$7,213,341) on 353 screens. As of its 2nd week, it had already earned a total of 1,253,595,404 yen (US$13,273,945).

By comparison, the series of 28 Godzilla films had a record of 99 million audiences.

Masako Fujimoto, the wife of the late cartoonist Fujiko F Fujio, who created the Doraemon series, said that Doraemon must be happy to be loved by such a large number of people.

  1. 1 Million more maybe, but they needed six more films to beat Godzilla...but only in that!

Now if it was a fight between them, my Money would be on Godzilla.
