The author of the Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Haganai) light novel series, Yomi Hirasaka confirms that a live action film adaptation is currently in the works. He also stated that the offer started back in June 2011, after the production of the anime series.
Since he didn't consider the story to be good for live action, he declined the offer back then. But he recently decided to approve it in light of his sense of crisis regarding the future of the light novel industry. He believed that the light novel industry can bring new readers through manga, anime and various adaptations.
Hirasaka will not be involved in the production of the live action and left everything in the hands of the professionals on the production staff. He invited his readers to watch the film if they are interested. So far, cast and staff are yet to be announced.
Haganai follows the story of Kodaka Hasegawa, recent transfer student to St. Chronica's Academy, a Catholic high school. As with every other school he has ever attended, he finds it difficult to make friends there because of his naturally-blond hair and fierce-looking eyes, which make him look threatening to his prejudiced schoolmates.
The light novel series had already inspired various anime and manga series.
