Deadline reports that screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Wolverine) will also be the director of the upcoming planned Skydance Productions' live-action film adaptation of the STAR BLAZERS anime series.
Josh Klein, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg will be producers on the project, and Shouji Nishizaki and Paul Schwake will be executive producers. Skydance Productions is the company who produced American films such as True Grit and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Star Blazers is a dubbed and partly rewritten. American animated television series adaptation of Yoshinobu Nishizaki and Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship YAMATO anime series. In 2010, a Japanese live action adaptation premiered in Japan and tops the box office.

Please no. Just watch "Space Battleship Yamato" from 2010 directed by Takashi Yamazaki.
So it is an American film adaptation of an anime series that is strike one based on a butchered dub of a classic anime series strike two and again cuz it bears repeating an American film adaptation of a classic anime series strike three this movie is going to suck. There needs to be some kind of embargo that prevents western made adaptations and dubs of Japanese licenseses. Mainly American made ones. There has never and will never be a good American adaptation or dub ever. They suck at everything from toys to fuck TV. If this movie is to be made it should be made by the Japanese people who can make a good movie know how to make toys and video games.
Is it so hard to just get the 2010 movie's right and release it with English Subtitle or at least (though heaven forbid) Dub at US theaters? It will save a loooooot of money and time, right?
Then again, this is the common problem with Hollywood. They just need to re-make foreign (not just Japan, but also Russian, French, and German) movies so that they can put more American in them.

Let's face it! I prefer to watch the live action Space Battleship Yamato! I have a bad feeling about this Star Blazers movie! However, while I agree with the fact that there hasn't been a good American film based on a popular anime, I will have to disagree with you on the whole "there will never be a good dub ever" and that the Americans "suck at everything". English dubs have come a long way, and there are lots of good dubs than bad ones nowadays. And American entertainment can be just as good as the Japanese entertainment you love so much.
