Idol Talk - Haruka Kodama Announces Departure from HKT48 after almost a Year of Hiatus

Haruka Kodama, also known as Haruppi among fans, has finally announced her intent to leave HKT48 after almost a year of inactivity.

The 22-year old idol has appeared once again through an interview with Nikkan Sports on June 3, 2019, where she publicly made the announcement.

Haruka Kodama will officially end her tenure with HKT48 on June 9, 2019 to continue her career as an actress.

Haruka was one of the original members when HKT48 was formed in November 2011, and is up to this day considered one of the group's most popular members, having been featured in all of the group's singles up until her hiatus in early 2018. She has been featured as the center for 4 consecutive singles, putting her in the spotlight.

She was also a concurrent member of AKB48 from 2014 to 2017, and has also been featured in several AKB48 singles, further spreading her name not only in her home of Fukuoka, but also all of Japan.

According to the interview, Haruka admitted having thoughts of leaving the entertainment industry, but was persuaded by SKE48's Marika Tani (who was originally from HKT48, but was transferred in 2014) to remain in show business.

Haruka Kodama will sign with Avex Asunaro Company on June 10, 2019, and will star in her 1st stage play "Watashi ni Ai ni Kite" in September 2019.
