Former AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe has been confirmed to have left the showbiz industry.
Mayu's agency Production Ogi had announced her retirement on June 1, 2020.
Also known by her nickname "Mayuyu", the 26-year old former idol made her debut in December 2006 as part of AKB48's 3rd generation. She became immensely popular and reached her peak in 2014 upon gaining 1st place on AKB48's general elections. Mayu announced her departure from the group in 2017, also on the day of the general elections, and ended her term in the group exactly at the end of 2017.
Mayu had immense success through her activities as an AKB member and even her own career as an actress and solo artist.
After graduation, Mayu continued on with her career until late 2019, when she abruptly went into hiatus with the sudden silence of her social media and sudden closure of her fan club and website.
Although unspecified, her former agency announced that she retired due to health reasons.
