Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods Earns 2.9 Billion Yen


TOEI reported that Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods had already earned 2.9 billion yen (about US$30 million) since it opened last March 30th. It was previously reported that this is currently the fastest-grossing film in Japan in 2013.

The company reported an all-time record high revenue and profit in their first quarter of the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2014 (April 1, 2013-June 30, 2013). Overall revenue increased by 13.6%, net operating income increased by 160.2%, and ordinary income increased by 137.1%. However, net income went down 134.5%.

Taking place during the manga's "lost decade", The God of Destruction Bils awakens from a long inactivity, and challenges Goku in a battle!

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is directed by Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director) at TOEI, and written by Yuusuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz), with a deep involvement of original author Akira Toriyama.

Additionally, TOEI's financial statement also reported that this year's crossover filmKamen Rider × Super Sentai × Space Sheriff: Super Hero Taisen Z” had earned a total of 950 million yen (about US$9.5 million).

    DBZ is a money maker, how many other anime or "super hero taisen" films can make that much? Execs need to make more DBZ or something new in the DB universe if they're smart.
