New live-action television series of Fujisawa Tohru's GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) manga will be returning in summer as announced on Monday by this year's 16th issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine.
This upcoming new series is set at the Shonan area where the former gang member turned "legendary" unorthodox teacher, Onizuka Eikichi grew up. In this series, he was assigned to his own alma mater. To reprise his role as Onizuka is actor Akira together with Shirota Yuu to play the role of Onizuka's old friend Danma Ryuji and Yamamoto Yusuke as the policeman Saejima Toshiyuki.
The new series is set to schedule to premiere in July every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on Kansai TV, Fuji TV and other stations.Added to that, the magazine also announced that there would be a new GTO manga series under the title GTO: Paradise Lost that is set to debut on April 14th on the 20th issue of the said magazine.

A Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) 4-episode mini series set in Taiwan was announced and EXILE's Akira will once again reprise his role as Eikichi Onizuka.
Also reprising their roles for this special are Yuu Shirota as Ryuji Danma and Yusuke Yamamoto as Toshiyuki Saejima. In addition, Taiwanese actors will be part of the cast, which includes Genie Chuo (as a female teacher and heroine) SpeXial band members Hong Zheng and Wei Jin, Lele Cheng, and Han.
In this special, Onizuka is invited to teach at a Taiwanese high school for a one-week training program. While there, Onizuka saves a student who is suffering from bullying. The upcoming special will feature Japanese and Mandarin Chinese dialogue.
This Japanese/Taiwanese production received funding from the Japanese government's Cool Japan effort, it is directed by Kazuhisa Imai (GTO 2012), with screenplay by Junpei Yamaoka, this special will air on Taiwan's GTV cable channel on March 22. It's Japanese premiere is not yet announced.

As revealed at the end of the New Year Special, the 2012 remake of the Great Teacher Onizuka live action drama series will have a graduation special this April. It will be entitled “GTO Final Volume ~Farewell Onizuka! Graduation Special~”, with original manga author Tohru Fujisawa collaborating for its story.
The story follows the graduation of Onizuka's students, focusing on the typical worries of students about their futures, which includes going to a university or enter the work force after graduation, in which intense arguments that occurs.
The near two-hour “GTO Final Volume ~Farewell Onizuka! Graduation Special~” airs this April 2nd.
