Luffy Acknowledges Meme in J-Stars Victory Vs.

The J-Stars Victory Vs. game which includes different characters from the popular Weekly Shonen Jump series has been released on March 19th. A surprise was included for fans as they listen to the voice samples of Luffy, courtesy of his anime voice actress Tanaka Mayumi.

"Instead of saying what you hate, say what you like!" is one of Luffy's line which is not really quoted from One Piece itself. It is a quotation from another Shonen Jump manga, "Tsugihagi Hyouryuu Sakka" (Patchwork Drifting Writer) as spoken by the main protagonist, Makibi, in the final chapter. It is said that Makibi has a strong resemblance to Luffy, only that there's a tendency for fans to misattribute the phrase. This phrase has now become a well-known meme.

This version has changed the phrase to: "Instead of saying what you like, say what you hate!"

The game shows a perfect example of hard work with 52 characters from 32 titles — from Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo (1976-current) to Assassination Classroom (2012-current). And a life-sized battle statue of Goku and Luffy has been presented to promote the game.
