Steve Cardenas known for his role as Rocky of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers recently revealed in a Facebook response that he turned down the offer to make an appearance in the coming episodes of Power Rangers Super Megaforce.
He replied on a post, stating the reason why he turned down the offer:
“The was too low and there's not a lot of character development. Just going to be in the background as an extra. I would've love to do it but I could possibly take the amount of time away from my business for a little amount of money. I'm sorry but I believe that it's them that's letting the fans down because they want to get away with paying a little. I hope you understand.”
Power Rangers Super Megaforce is the 21st season of Power Rangers continuing the celebration of the series 20th anniversary. Based on the previous information, everything related to Goseiger will be spread into 20 episode first season. The Megaforce rangers, will acquire a new "power up" in Super Megaforce and must be in this "new power-up" (Gokaiger suit) to transform into past rangers...

goddammit Saban, can you do something right?
so,that's probably why JDF don't want to reappear as well... dammit..
now we know that Saban didn't pay their actors (and/or legends) well, god knows how much they pay their staff..
can we do something about this? maybe start a petition or something?
If they can't get Rocky, they'll need to get Jason! The ORiginal RED Ranger!
I understand his reasons and I think they are pretty reasonable as a professional. It's still sad, as Rocky is my favorite MMPR and Zeo character
too bad but i guess steve does make a pointlike he said "them" that is saban has let the fans down because they pay a little.
reyasem, if Steve doesn't want to appear on Super Megaforce he doesn't want to appear on Super Megaforce.
Only thing we can do is respect his wishes about why he doesn't want to return! And Jason David Frank doesn't care about how much money Saban pays him, because he's in it for the fans.
@7:40
Wasn't he replaced as Red on Zeo?
@reyasem , Actually JDF has stated MANY times that he'd do it if Saban just asked him. He's also stated that he would do it for as little as $1. He's also stated that IF he was involved he would be under a NDA and could not confirm nor deny his involvement.
They couldn't get Jason. He's overseas as a EMT and wants nothing to do with the series. Looks like they're going to go with the awful voice actors approch like they did Tommy on the SPD/Dino Thunder crossover.
That`s not the first time that a actor refuses to return in a PR role. And thats a shame. Just to compare to sentai series, the japanese actors almost has no objections to return, even to only use their voices.
I'm just hoping they don't get cheap with the show, I hope the megaforce rangers don't get all 5 powers from tommy
Either way saban's a Jew so that's why he's so cheap
"it's them that's letting the fans down because they want to get away with paying a little"
THAT WAS EPIC. This might prove that Saban wasn't saving the budget for Super Megaforce, but rather he didn't have any money at all! Sheesh Saban.
And also, the statement state that Rocky is just going to be a background character, so it's understandable if he's going to travel far just to be a recognizable extra.
@Anon #3
No, he only replaced Jason as the Red Ranger in season 2, but was promoted to Blue in Zeo and then he was replaced by Justin in Turbo.
So, yeah...Mr. Cardenas did have a good reason why he decided not to reprise his role for Super Megaforce.
ONORE, SABAN!!!!!
I definitely understand Rocky's reasoning for turning down the offer to return to Power Rangers. Considering how he has a successful business, it would pointless for him to return just for a brief cameo in an episode, with the overseas traveling and stuff. And lets be honest here, when Rocky became the second red ranger in MMPR season 2 and 3, nobody gave a shit about it. Even in the later series, his popularity was low. So it's not really a big deal. I rather have them bring back Jason than Rocky. As for Saban giving him a low pay for the appearance, I wonder how much it was. $200? It truly is a shame Saban isn't really in the best economic status to be celebrating and affording the 20th anniversary. Don't get your hopes to high guys, we might not be getting the season we are dreaming about. I just wish that Tommy and Jason will return and they will have that Forever Red part 2 team up that rumors are spreading.
sengalboy: I don't think it's Saban not having money at all, it's more of exploiting as much money while spending as little time effort and money to make it.
No good veteran rangers = no more pr i will be done
iamjohnnymcb,
Though I do not like how Haim Saban does not pay the Power Ranger actors and actresses little, but I do not appreciate the Jew sentence. Not all Jews are cheap. Saying Jew in that context is an insult.
Never was a big fan of Rocky, so his lack of involvement doesnt bother me. The fact he said he was offered a "background" role makes me wonder if they DID get Jason.
Remember what happened during Forever Red on Wild Force? There were rumors that Steve Cardenas was offered a role, but would be small and supportive cause there was no "place" for him. (I would have them say that he was given the Red Alien Ranger/Kakuranger from Billy & the Aquitians, but can understand why not as well.)
Keep in mind as well that Saban/Nick doesnt have a huge budget for the season. they can't afford to fly in every ranger to new zealand, so they'll have to be selective and cant offer too much.
Anyway, I never felt they needed to bring back every or even most MMPR. Gokaiger worked well with the limited guest roles cause it allowed more character focus. With Power rangers only having 40 episodes combined in two season, which is more than 20 behind a typical Sentai season, they need as much character development as they can.
Hopefully they can get at least 1 ranger from most of the 20 seasons. It looks like wild force is represented, and i'd be shocked if Johnny Yong Bosch isnt involved. Let's see what happens.
Personally, if there was one ranger representing each team, my hope would be:
MMPR: Tommy
Zeo: Adam
Turbo: TJ
Space: Andros
Lost Galaxy: Kendrix
Lightspeed rescue: Joel
Time Force: Jen
Wild Force: Cole (based on pics, all but confirmed)
Ninja Storm: Tori
Dino Thunder: Kira
SPD: Doggie Krueger (if john tui reprises)
Mystic Force: Daggeron (hey, if they already have john tui)
Operation Overdrive: Um......can we skip this one?
Jungle Fury: Dom
RPM: Flynn
Samurai: Let's go with Kevin, I found him the least annoying
@reyasem JDF said he would return to the show for free jut because he cares more about making his fans happy then money. So please stop spewing this garbage about Saban please. Steve is the only person to turn them down because of money so far. So to hate on Saban for his greediness when the BIGGEST Ranger would do it for free is ridiculous.
I don't have anything to say.
This could either be good or bad.
Either, all of the legends will be back but just say, hey what's up or nothing at all and be pointless for their appearance.
Or, they did get legends that make an importance, but also brought plenty others to be there in the background to remind you of all those who've been in this series before.
Either way, if it's streamed on nick . com I'll keep up with this season, and see it be awesome or crumble on it's self.
I can understand his reasoning. Though it does suck as a fan to hear this. I rather they just not do a voice over and just ask someone else to return from that series like Walter Jones or Johnny Yong Bosch (unless they use him for Zeo or something).
@9:17 PM
He was in Zeo as the Blue Ranger.
1:27 did something cool. I'll list my hopes of cameos to:
MMPR: Tommy
Zeo: Adam
Turbo: Carlos (Justin is pretty much confirmed)
Space: Zhane
Lost Galaxy: Kai
Lightspeed rescue: Chad
Time Force: Trip
Wild Force: Taylor
Ninja Storm: Cam
Dino Thunder: Kira
SPD: Sky or Bridge
Mystic Force: Chip
Operation Overdrive: Rose
Jungle Fury: Dom or RJ
RPM: Flynn
Samurai: Kevin
Kickstarter anyone?
And I think JDF will take part regardless of how much they pay him. He seems to enjoy the fandom too much not to.
ONORE SABAN!!!!
Here's who's possibly likely to reprise their roles
MMPR-Turbo: Tommy
In Space: Andros
Lost Galaxy: Maya (Cerina Vincent has expressed interest)
Lightspeed: Carter
Timeforce: Eric
Wild Force: Cole
Ninja Storm: Cam
Dino Thunder: Ethan (Kevin Duhaney has hinted the possibility of returning)
S.P.D: Doggie
Mystic Force: Daggeron
Operation Overdrive: Rose (Rhoda Montemayor has stated she would return "in a heartbeat")
Jungle Fury: Casey (CONFIRMED Ciara Hanna posted a pic on Instagram with the 2 of them together)
RPM: Ziggy and Dr. K (Both are still in a relationship and have returned to NZ)
Samurai: Entire cast for teamup (so far Jayden is confirmed)
Hello everybody :D
This information should not be new to no one. Saban is hoarding all the cash. Just like that company always have. Hack writers, terrible Directors, Boring Casting choices. This circle jerk for "Mega Farce" needs to end. It's a terrible anniversary show. "Super Mega Farce" is gonna suck. Enough said...
Do all the people calling Saban greedy know what a budget is? It's not like they make those things public. I'm certain from that budget licenses fees need to be paid to Toei, then there's equipment, shooting locations, "small" things like catering, advertising, and most of all, paying staff. STAFF, not just the actors you all get your rocks off for. There are other people that work in the background that you don't see, that makes the show possible. These things don't cost a dollar, a piece of gum, and a shiny nickle.
And although I know the guy that said $200 was probably using it as an example, I still have to point out that you might want to add at LEAST another zero on that.
I don't have experience producing a show, I damn well don't have experience producing a well known show. I also have not seen their financials, so I won't pretend (like you lot) that I know the ins and outs of their financial situation.
1) GG Saban, Respect for you lowered one again.
2) Now we REALLY don't know who is in the RyuRanger costume in Troy's dream.
Dude at 4:48 AM. Stop being an apologist for Saban. If they couldn't forecast any budget restriction leading into a bloody anniversary season. Then they deserve to fail. So far it's looking like another disappointing season.
Just a heads up:
JDF recently cancelled an appearance at a convention, due to something "important to him" involving "filming outside of the country (USA)". He also recently posted a YouTube video "What's next Tommy Oliver?".
It looks like JDF is returning after all.
