It has been announced on April 17th that a 37-year-old housewife by the name of Tsukamoto Mariko won the "Otona AKB48 Audition" and was chosen to be the Otona AKB48 member.
As a pasrt of Ezaki Glico's "Papico 2014 Spring Campaign", the "Otona AKB48 Audition" was held to find a temporary member who was 30 years old above. Reports say that there are 5,066 people who applied for audition including former Morning Musume member Ichii Sayaka, comedienne Kintaro, and the likes. In fact, the oldest applicant is an 82-year-old woman.
Being a mother of 2, Tsukamoto is a housewife residing in a metropolitan area, but originally from Nara prefecture. It was through a friend's recommendation that made he apply for the audition.
Alongside with five AKB48 members including Watanabe Mayu and Shimazaki Haruka, Tsukamoto attended the press conference. According to Shimazaki, her nickname could be "Mariri" and Watanabe made a promise that she would support her.
Tsukamoto would be debuting as the center member in the new "Papico" CM that would air on May 14th. And as an AKB48 member, she'll also participate in the group's handshake events, theater performances and live concerts. When the campaign ends on August 31st, she would also "graduate" from the group.

Well, they said that even a Mother could join. And one did join indeed. Congrats. Althought it would have been interesting have had the 82 years old one join.
