Karan Ashley Refuses Power Rangers Super Megaforce Invitation

Similar to Steve Cardenas and Rhett Fisher, Karan Ashley, also known as Aisha, the second Yellow Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, was invited to make an appearance in the upcoming episodes of Power Rangers Super Megaforce. But she turned it down. Here's what she have to say.

An excerpt from the May 6th airing of Uncensored Radio

Similar to the other two, low pay and budget restrictions made them refuse the offer.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce is the 21st season of Power Rangers continuing the celebration of the series 20th anniversary. Based on the previous information, everything related to Goseiger will be spread into 20 episode first season. The Megaforce rangers, will acquire a new "power up" in Super Megaforce and must be in this "new power-up" (Gokaiger suit) to transform into past rangers... This will also feature the appearance of the "historical rangers".

HAHAHHAH up yours Saban, they can only go worse from here till any thing PR is just ignored and they have to stop it all but maybe ,and this is just my positive side, someone will pick up the mantle and do it justice but it is highly unlikely so i hope your company rot into oblivion,Saban

  2. Anonymous Says:

So the producers of mega force cant personalize their emails, invitations or phone calls to the previous power rangers to ASK them to come make an appearance thats sad.
because it is such a low budget show their expecting to be able to have all the power rangers participation and not pay them at least the minimum wage for 1 day

  3. Anonymous Says:

    Why Saban WHY?!!!

  4. marty Says:

whatever she says she might be right you know,so there is only one thing to do and for the best of fans its best we should ask saban (and nickelodeon for real since they broadcast the show) to cancel the show,Unless the production crew and saban should make better high pay and no budget restrictions and maybe a relocation to canada will be nice.

  5. Haadorenger Says:

it's just disappointing. but hey, they still have half a year or something, Saban might surprise me. just hoping for the best. if not, then at least they must try. right?

  6. Chris Says:

In response to the 2nd comment.

I don't know why you are asking Disney to take the rights back, have you forgotten that Disney wanted to cancel Power Rangers after they reaired and edited mighty morphin?

  7. Anonymous Says:

End the show now before it disappears into obscurity. They can't do anything right over there. First they ask Tzachor to remain as an Exec producer and show runner. While shunning Judd Lynn, a more competent story teller. Then they hire the mickey mouse club rejects inflated with all types of drugs. As the core cast to reinvent the franchise. Epic Fail. Next you get the same ass clowns that produce/wrote for Samurai to pen the "Anniversary Series". On top of refusing to pay veteran cast members a proper wage to step away from their jobs and families to lend their credibility to this failure of a series. Disney please take over before it's too late.....

Saban...if you can't even pay your actors right PLEASE DON'T EVEN BOTHER TOUCH GOKAIGER!!! you might aswell drop the series and never make PR again. We better have those SENTAIS DUBBED, because we all know THE JAPANESE WILL NEVER GET IT WRONG as they will always offer THE BEST to their fans

  10. Anonymous Says:

I wonder anyone questions if there are any 'redtapes' by Toei or Bandai.

If a show 'CAN sell', no need that much budget. Ride on the franchise will do.

Even Kamen riders have budget constraints (cough cough gatakiriba CGI)

  11. Its an american adaptation so saying it will be as good as it Japanese counterpart is wrong but this series is going to be just sad. Really sad they know they don't have the budget for this type of series....or don't want to spend the money but they still want to do a big anniversary series. Its crap like this that makes me watch subs only. The Japanese give more of a shit about there shows and products

  12. badguycardo Says:

No! im totally against this whole super megaforce power up bs. Goseiger series was good in japan but fuck by far gokeiger was and is hands down one of the best super sentai series today and it deserves its own stand alone season in the u.s. maybe if disney would be behind it they would be able to give the past rangers a much better pay they deserve....fuckkk this will ruin the while pirate concept :(

  13. Haadorenger Says:

or yeah, Marty's right. if they can cancel the show and give it to Disney, the latter had done a good job with the stories.

  14. Anonymous Says:

First Steve Cardenas refused, Now Karan Ashley refused .... all we have to do now is wait for Johnny Yong Bosch to refuse and we'll have the trio complete.
WE won't have them, but you get my point.

  15. Anonymous Says:

The only way to save Power rangers is have koichi sakamoto and makoto yokoyama back to produce but it's unlikely as both moved back to japan,

koichi doing kyoryuger and makoto stunt directing on garo season 3

Or to save Power rangers do a reboot big screen movie for cinema and maybe michael bay taking the helm

Right now power rangers as a series needs to end. Saban is literally kicking a dead horse thinking it's alive but in reality it's dead.

Disappointing, expected more from the anniversary, was wrong to think megaforce would deliver

Now Super Megaforce is gonna SUPER MEGA SUCK That it done with Power rangers It's not the anniversary of power rangers, it's the end of the power rangers.

RIP Power rangers is offically dead.

The 90's gone and went the 2000's gone and went. Power rangers are a shitfest now The end

  16. Anonymous Says:

    This is just sad.
I defended super megaforce from the beginning, but this is just stupid.
Saban brands needs to raise it's budget and pay these people right so they can have a kick-ass reunion.
If they fail at this, they're going to lose all their fans who happened to have watched gokaiger and have great expectations, me included. I'm going to finish this series, but if it fails I will never watch a new season or consider letting any little kid watch or get their toys. Instead, I'll get them into something good that hasn't been cancelled or ruined yet.

Also, I'm annoyed by all the comments whining how SS did a better job and they're the best, first of all we never heard complaints about the actors pay in japan because that's look down upon in that country, you work because you want to work not because you want to get paid. Secondly, a lot of the SS seasons suck and were imperfect, my personal list is Kyuger(Just awful), boukenger(As an aniversary season, it sucked), gekiranger(Too slow and no interesting heroes), hurricanger(Pretty boring so far), and gokaiger on a few parts mainly how the whole series was just a big ass advertisement for all the toys and products.

  19. Anonymous Says:

Saban you are now suffering the wrath of the old rangers & the fans ..... you fucked up by number one wtf is a megaforce & secondly like cmon you actually are letting them use the gokaiger suits in this season noooooooooooooooooooooo see this is why super sentai will always be supreme

  20. Anonymous Says:

Anyone else getting the feeling that all these appearance refusals are just a red herring, or is it just me?

  21. MrReplyGuy Says:

I find it stupid that people are complaining about Saban not being/not getting certain actors to replay their roles because of Saban's budget, you realize that a good number of the actors we've seen rejecting come backs were because they would not only have to pay for them to appear, but they'd also have to pay travel costs as well, right?

Since the show is being made in New Zealand, travel money would have to be spent to get them over from America or where-ever the actor is currently living, and that can cost a lot, it's not like Saban Brands can just raise it's budget for Super MegaForce since it's the real 20th anniversary thing, they'd probably have to ask Nick and it's possible for them to be told "No", meaning Saban would have to cheap out hear and there, which is why they're most likely not spending/have not spent the money on editing the Goseiger cards in the Gosei Great Megazord + other form ready shots and giving the cast the occasional other outfit for the rangers when they're blending in as civilians, they're taking as many short-cuts as possible so the budget doesn't get used in one go.

And don't you think it's a bit drastic saying that Nick should cancel Power Rangers? The show is aimed at kids, they won't care if the show is good or not, and to cover this point here, what makes you think Saban will sell a series he helped create all those years ago? You think someone can do better? Well Disney surely did a good job with Operation Overdrive, right?.....no, they didn't, even if Saban was to sell the series to someone else again, the endless cycle of complain about Saban owning and not owning Power Rangers would continue

Also, wouldn't it make sense in context that Aisha doesn't return, since I remember Zordon saying that time will have changed when she stayed to help the animals in Africa and sent Tanya with her Zeo crystal part, unless magic and plot happen to make sure it's her who returns, then it doesn't make sense she does, then again, it's not like we can bring back Ms Trang, the Titanium Ranger not coming back? I can understand the upset about that, I'll personally be okay as long as they acknowledge him with the Spirit Rangers, Rocky not coming back, I remember him more as the Blue Zeo Ranger than anything, but I can still understand why people would be upset by that, but Aisha? Really?

@Anon who posted at 12:27 "Or to save Power rangers do a reboot big screen movie for cinema and maybe michael bay taking the helm"
How about "No?", Michael Bay is already planning to turn the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into aliens and the Transformers movie series is....uggh...are you sure you'd want someone like him to possibly ruin Power Rangers harder than Saban is said to be doing?

@Khal eel You realize Saban only gave them the license to the creators of those games to make Power Ranger versions of them, right? Besides that, they have no other involvement (to my knowledge)

Apologies for the long post, but just seeing a reaction like this does call for a call of order

  22. @Anonymous May 7,2013 at 10:49 PM
Honestly I don't think that JYB will do it either. From what it seems, the ranger alumni love their fans but I don't blame them for not wanting to return because they have seriously seen the ugly side of Saban. There was a panel with the Zeo cast and the discussion was about the Turbo movie and if I remember correctly the actors had to provide their own room and board during production of the movie. Nakia and JDF ended up going broke became unsheltered. Thankfully they ended sharing space with Cat and JYB until production was over. As for Blake, Saban had no choice but to take care of him because he was a minor at the time. Mess with the minor and the parents will sue!

JYB has returned a couple of times before but in most recent years he is perhaps the most successful alumni of ALL the American rangers. Would you really believe that he will take time from dubbing with Funimation and temporary leave his bigger fanbase and salary to work on a project that Saban don't even know wtf their doing and underpays people.

This is one of those moments I wish I was rich to take over the show. Saban ya'll stupid as all hell!

  23. Anonymous Says:

something to keep in mind: just because saban industries has money doesnt mean they have a lot. Think about it: the entire brand is about taking established tv shows and either dubbing (anime) or adding a few minutes worth of original scenes to a show like PR.

they're nowhere near what Toei is, and I doubt they have as good a merchandise deal with bandai.

so most of what they make comes from selling the distribution rights to their TV shows. That doesnt leave a lot for production. People are quick to yell cheap, but do you know the books at saban? don't you think that the fact that the only deal they can get is nickelodeon giving them about 40 episodes stretched across TWO YEARS says a lot about how little the brand is worth by USA TV? when i see how they're scaling back by going to new zealand, using primarily local actors, i dont think cheap. i think that THIS MAY BE THE BEST THEY CAN AFFORD.

I really would like to hear where they're supposed to be making this much money. The toys are bandai. Saban has to buy footage, costumes, and more from Toei.

and the most important aspect: The age group. PR is geared toward kids, mostly between 6 and 13. Yes, ppl on this site know a lot of people who are VERY into power rangers as adults. But how many really tune in? They may fill up conventions, but is it a large enough demo to make money? considering the rating for PR the last 10 years, i doubt it.

Sentai has a a completely different culture. a lot more adults embrace Tokusatsu, and sentai has a 30 year history to draw from. Toei is a much bigger company than Saban, and gets much more revenue. It makes far more sense for them to spend big on the anniversary than Power rangers, where the majority of the fans won't recognize or connect to the classic heroes anyway.

so if you're angry that most of the cast don't show up, the best way to voice that is to just not watch. but don't protest the show's cancellation. just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean that you have to take it away from the kids who do. Let them grow up with it, and maybe they'll discover Sentai when they grow up like you did.

What a shame! I'm very disappointed!! But this appears to be the way it's going to go with any former Power Ranger who's asked to appear on Megaforce. Is Saban just being too cheap, or are these Ex-Rangers being too prima donna? Surely they can't expect superstar money, can they? They aren't really known for anything else than being a Power Ranger. But then, Saban should have respect for the people who built the P.R. franchise shouldn't they? Either way, in the end, its the fans who really lose! But thank heavens for Jason David Frank! That man would do it for free as long as it made the fans happy! Nice to have one former Ranger who is more concerned with the fans than lining his pockets!

  26. This situation reminds me of Forever Red, where Danny Slavin (Lightspeed Rescue's Red, Leo) initially refused to come back but they actually convinced him to return at the last minute. Of course, this situation is the exact opposite, where the staff is doing as little as possible to convince returning actors to return. And all things considered, Power Rangers is pretty blessed to have so many actors who would even CONSIDER returning to play a role in a silly kids' show they were in 10-something years ago, let alone attending a fan convention.

khal eel: From what I hear, Justin's actor has improved a good deal since Turbo, both in terms of acting and fighting talent. Of course, he also apparently loves the opportunity to show up people who blame him for the problems with Turbo.

  27. Anonymous Says:

The way saban is adapting the power ranger series.... i would refuse it also.

  28. Ren Says:

Saban should just give up and try to strike a deal with Toei to just air Super Sentai and Kamen Rider in the US. Dubbed or subbed, either is fine. It's what most of us here watch anyway. It's time for kids to see their source content.

Saban pays their actors in peanuts, and the more recent actors are terrible at acting, just pretty faces with little skill. They can't even get their first and only original ranger, and the quality of their US products aren't all that great either.

  29. News flash to those who want Disney to buy back Power Rangers: DISNEY DOESN'T WANT POWER RANGERS BACK! Have you forgotten that they wanted to end it after the very terrible "Re version" of the first season of MMPR?

And to all those people saying that "OMG, Power Rangers is ruined" seriously need to quit belly aching because Super Megaforce hasn't even aired yet.

And to the anonymous bashing the current and previous Super Sentai shows, go fuck yourself, especially for bashing Gokaiger and Kyoryuger!

Why can't we just be happy that we are even getting a 20th anniversary of Power Rangers and that the previous seasons are up on Netflix on their "Watch Instantly" service and that Shout! Factory is bringing all of the previous seasons to DVD?

  30. Anonymous Says:

*sigh* That does it, I can conclude that nearly 90% of the people in Jefusion are negative towards Power Rangers. The worst part is that you guys are complaining over a show that's for kids! Really?! Even if Power Rangers gets cancelled, it's not like it's the end of the world. If it gets cancelled, all of you can just go back and look at Super Sentai instead which is the show you guys keep comparing soooo much to Power Rangers.*sigh*I seriously hate my own fandom.

  31. 牙狼 Says:

This is what Saban gets for filming in New Zealand. I bet if they were filming closer to the states then the majority of the veterab actor would oblige and join in the show.

I actually loved Boukenger. BoukenRed is my ideal red and over all the series seemed different from most series'. Now Operation Overdrive sucked.

The only thing that annoyed me was Gajaah. I swear, my throat was dry every time he spoke. Zuuban was tolerable for a pokémon.

  32. Anonymous Says:

Saban u should learn from the people who created the super sentai they have been doing a better job than u guys have over the years.

  33. Anonymous Says:

If Johnny Young Basch was going to return, he'd be Zeo Ranger III. If Steve Cardenas were to return, he'd be Zeo Ranger II. Karan, she had an important role, given that even if her tenure wasn't long, she at least beats Thuy Trang in the "being alive" department. :P

I think you all fail to realize that because the original cast was a bit discombobulated, they're trying to fill in as many roles as they can with the actors they will get. If a Ranger has two roles, but only kept one consistently, they're getting paid to reprise that role.

And in reality, the pay will probably never be worth it to pick up a role as what will essentially be a background character - I imagine former red rangers and the characters with more dynamic or open-ended development will probably get a little more of a profit out of this. From what we know, the people that have turned down their roles so far have been reduced to background cameos, maybe they'll appear helmetless in their suits or something.

  34. I say it before, and I say it again. Saban need to STOP giving contribution to political friends, and instead pay those casts and staffs.
I'm liking Super Sentais more than PR series.
Saban need turn the whole franchise to TOEI COMPANY LLC, at least they can be betters at it than Saban.

  35. Anonymous Says:

i bashed late last night, i am displeased at where we've gone and what it is, it needs to be at the hands of someone other than nick. i think the president of the company needs to intervene to save it from its inevitable death or move to canada.

Saban isn't treating/respecting this as a reunion. He's just cowing the milk.

yes, i typed that right, he's hoping for a cow to come out from pure milk.

  38. Drizleo Says:

Soo We basically only have the kid from turbo no one gave a crap about? And Saban really dropped the ball on Karen Ashley due to the fact she respects her power ranger fanbase but still she did keep her distance from them for a while and having her come back just for one episode would've been excellent sadly I only see Jason and Tommy coming back just for the fans mainly tommy because he's more so in it for the fanbase and what not but Gokaiger needs its own series and not some cheap knock off season as a power up

    Cool story bro.

"The show is aimed at kids"

For a show that's overall aimed at kids. They seem to be banking a lot on the nostalgia factor for this and next season. Another thing, Why are you being an apologist for a bunch of suits that could give two craps about you or anyone else's opinions? The suits over at Saban had YEARS to prep for this. If the bean counters couldn't forecast a proper model to help make this a successful and profitable ANNIVERSARY season, then the faults on them. They have no issues with looting our pockets. Another thing, just because it's "for kids" doesn't mean they have to repeatedly dumb it down. They're plenty of other shows out the "aimed for kids" in where they don't treat there audience like lobotomized retards. Saban's return so far can be summed up as a giant mess. Super Sentai is also aimed at kids. The only difference is that Toei treats it's audience with better class, respect and courtesy then Saban' brands does with it's own audience. Anniversary season my ass. Good luck Saban with the B team that no one cares for.

  41. Anonymous Says:

The best way is to ask TOEI and Bandai to support power rangers in US. SO they can actually make good series and promote selling toys in US

*face-freakin-palm* Ugh Saban. Doing the 20th Anniversary all wrong!

I feel like if Disney only saw Gokaiger coming, they wouldn't have let go of the series so soon. I can only imagine the money they'll make off the keys themselves from collectors. Damn such a waste. Such. A. Waste.

I hope Johnny can make it though. Favorite freakin ranger.

  43. Anonymous Says:

All this is going to be sentai footage and empty body suits. We all know from experience from Super Hero Taisen that there is no nostalgia in that.

  44. Anonymous Says:

power rangers should just end after super megaforce, saban officially killed power rangers

  45. Anonymous Says:

Puff a bunch of people bitching because Saban cann't copy cat Gokaiger on terms of an Anniversary... And well... Doesn't anybody know about economy? Money doesn't fall from the sky, and even less from the entertainment industry where the competition is strong. Saban has just recently buy the Power Rangers franchise from Disney... They will have barely a good amount of money to work with. Other thing to note, is that there are a lot of legends and they will not be cheap since they will have better jobs or payments... I will love to see if anybody of the complainers will have the guts or the brains to be able to do something being a CEO of Saban... and dealing with the likes of a IRR of around 15%...

  46. Sorry Drizleo, but Gokaiger isn't getting it's own series because of the fact of the 15 previous teams before Zyuranger which was used for season 1 of MMPR!

And AGAIN, we don't even know how Super Megaforce is going to turn out which doesn't give anybody the right to be passing judgment on it until we watch it for ourselves.

Danny Lucas: Saban isn't going to turn over Power Rangers to Toei Company because they only make the Super Sentai Series which is the source material for Power Rangers!

Ren: Saban isn't going to give up and try to have Kamen Rider and Super Sentai aired in the U.S. You want to know why?, cultural differences for one thing, and you have all of these religious bigots here in America that would be breathing down Saban's neck. And the most important thing is that most of the population of America has no clue what Kamen Rider or Super Sentai are, and it also wouldn't be in Toei's best interest from a business and financial standpoint!

  47. Anonymous Says:

"This show is aimed for kids"

And yet Saban said that Super Megaforce is for fans. FOR FANS. So don't blame us for being butthurt because Saban ruined it, because SABAN IS CLEARLY RUINING THE SHOW TO US FANS!!!!

  48. MrReplyGuy Says:

"SABAN IS CLEARLY RUINING THE SHOW TO US FANS!!!!"

Can't you see that Saban is trying everything in it's power, even with the budget it has, to get back as many returning cast members as it can? I can understand those that don't want return because of the budget and how they're being offered to return, which we can assume is not much, so to say that Saban is purposely doing this is a bit over the top

And to reply to Anon who posted at 10:25 AM, I don't recall saying I approve of the dumbing down of Power Rangers, I'm fact, I'm with you and everyone who says it shouldn't be that dumbed down

  49. Anonymous Says:

so far we only have 9 actors behind a WHOPPING 9 suits out of a possible 104, does this raise red flags to you fans?

  50. I don't know why people complains about empty suits... I mean... in Gokaiger vs Goseiger, not all the actors appeared, when everyone loose their powers and the world was in peace again... we just saw a few of past rangers, they were like 15 past rangers.

Past rangers appeared in gokaiger episodes but just one of every season, I don't like the idea of Titanium ranger won't appear ('cause it's original), hope spirit rangers appear and would be awesome A SPD team appear too... (don't care if they were evil, they were rangers).

I understand Karan, 'cause she said she would love to do it for the PR fans but maybe Saban is not paying the travel, food, hotel, etc. so I think that she was meaning when she said Saban is low of budget.

I know PR is for kids, but PR LSR, WF, and others, even Turbo! has a kid in the team, and he was more mature as Megaforce (so as NS, DT, SPD, and my favourite season RPM) was for kids but not stupid as Megaforce, I watched it and I say it's mighty morphin again... and I know it was an awesome season, but as time pass, people change and now kids don't think the same way as we thought when we were childs, I just compare DT season with MegaForce and I say, DT was mature and about SS, Gokaiger was more mature and I dont think MegaForce actors fill the suits, I mean Gokaiger characters had a dark past, their planets were destroyed, their relatives died, that's why they wanted to destroy the zangyack force (and they want a the best treasure in the universe or something like that), and Ahim convinced them to save earth because she dont wanted another people to suffer that's why they defend the earth

about making a dark season... I saw a video where fans showed the fan film they made where Lord Zedd is back and want to kill the PR and after he saw it he said "I always wanted to make power rangers going dark" if kids could watch RPM, and people died in screen (like the buttler) why they cant make a dark season, I think that fans would love it and his niche market will grow

Haim Saban, you and your production company are nothing but a FRAUD. It’s more than a high time for you and your production crew to quit producing Power Rangers series, the adaptation (actually, the parody if you will) of the Super Sentai series of Japan, it’s just gone way too far! And to the Power Rangers fans, especially those of you who don’t acknowledge Super Sentai as the original source for the dumbfuck show that you love so much, you’re extremely delusional to believe Power Rangers is better than Super Sentai. Don’t you see? Saban is cashing in on your stupidity, he and his production crew can’t and won’t make the Power Rangers series any better, and it’ll only get worse and worse. Just look at what he and his production crew did to other tokusatsu genres of Japan (i.e., Metal Hero and Kamen Rider series) to create other crap shows such as VR Troopers, Masked Rider and Big Bad Beetleborgs many years ago, it was basically the same techniques used to create the Power Rangers. Since some of you have expressed disappointments about the latest Power Rangers installments as well as the ones earlier (I mean the ones that Saban’s company created prior to selling the rights of the Power Rangers franchise to Disney for production years ago), why continue to give Saban’s production company any more benefit of a doubt?!!! Enough already!!!!
